I never thought we would see such a slump from Peyton Little. She looks like she has lost all of her confidence. We really need her to step up and be a leader, and instead, she seems to be fighting herself. She has so much talent and ability. I know she will break out of this, but this slump is starting to feel like Ebi Ere in 2003 all over again.
Gioya simply isn't ready to play basketball yet. I feel terrible for her, but she is a liability at this point. What a shame because she is such a spirited player and could add so much to this team. She really needed a soft non conference schedule to prepare herself for what we are playing against right now. She dribbles straight into traffic with her head down. She isn't even looking for the perimeter shot.
Women's basketball officiating is just beyond irritating. The flopping today on the offensive fouls (especially early) was so blatant and obvious. Kaylon spun away from a player and was called for an offensive foul - simply because a player fell down. On the flip side, we seem to fall down a lot because of minimal contact. We have to be stronger. Kaylon and Vivi are strong post players. They need to stay patient, be strong, and finish plays. Where is the hook shot?
The shooting from our guards has been mind boggling. We can't hit anything right now, and it seems to me like we pass up a lot of good shots early in the shot clock because of a lack of confidence. We also look robotic trying to throw the ball inside.
The turnovers are simply ridiculous. Veterans playing like middle schoolers. I am not even sure what to say. Sometimes we turn it over out of aggression, and sometimes we turn it over because we aren't smart and we are weak. I feel like the dumb turnovers outnumber the ones out of aggression about 100 to 1 right now.
We really should experiment with a two post lineup the way we are playing. It might slow the game down and put more pressure on defenses. I know Sherri doesn't want to do that, but we should consider it. Shooting the ball better would solve a lot of problems.
Sometimes games like this are exactly what teams need. I sure hope that is the case.
