The 02 03 teams just had better all around offense. Last years would not match up at all against the Final Four team. Hollis and Ebi were much better offensive threats than anyone we had at guard last year. You throw in Ace McGhee who had the long jumper and could score inside. And we also had Quannas who was a perfect point guard and nobody can forget how good Jabahri Brown was on defense. He would slow Blake down enough for the 02-03 guards to get that team on top.

I think so too. I really felt we matched up well with Maryland.

Definitely. OU proved that when they handily beat them in the season.

When you look at not only the teams OU beat, but the amount of teams OU beat, its an incredible resume:

Maryland-National Champs
KU-Final 4
Missouri (twice)-Elite 8
Texas (3 times)-Sweet 16
At UCONN-Sweet 16
Zona

Pretty impressive.

Not to mention Xavier with David West who's had a good career in the NBA and Illinois-Chicago who played in 3 or 4 NCAA tournaments with the coach who's now at Clemson. They were a formidable first round game for us.

That was a fun team to watch.

Hell yeah. I was so proud of those guys, especially McGhee; he was a warrior during that run.

We were better then Indiana, nerves made us lose. I do think we probably would have lost to Maryland in the championship game because they were a very different team then the one we beat in December. But I wouldnt have bet against it either if we were running on all cylinders.

Ace is one of my favorite Sooner players ever... that guy could do it all and singlehandedly kept us in that Indiana game.

I don't agree with these comments about needing to recruit better defensive players. Defense is mostly about effort and smarts. And effort. Also, effort. I remember us playing very good defense during the Sampson era while continually playing rosters with much less athleticism than Capel has. I mean, we had tons of guys like John Ontjes out there and we defended well. (Shame about the offense, though.)

Move your feet as fast as you can. Work your butt off to get around screens. Don't stop chasing your man no matter what. Body up on him, get physical, stay between him and the basket, and challenege every shot. I know you have to know your rotations and everything, but come on. It's not that complicated. Have some freaking desire - and WORK.
