Ford swept Barnes this year
That would be a home-run hire for them. Unlike his two predecessors at VCU, Shaka Smart has a Final Four appearance on his young resume. I hope Smart is waiting for a more elite job like Brad Stevens at Butler did.

Well, crap. I was starting to love Rick Barnes. Not many people have found a way to do less with as much as he brought onto his rosters.
No doubt this is going to have a seismic effect on Big 12 basketball... think they make a run at a Texas native like Buzz Williams?

I think Texas made a mistake firing Barnes. He missed one NCAA Tournament in his years at Texas and that was because too many guys left early for the NBA (Triston Thomas and Corey Joseph but went after their freshman season). I get that Texas has not been particularly strong the last few years but it isn't like they sucked either. Given that he is the best coach in the history of the program, I think he deserved another year or two.
Well, that's TX where they think they are so better than anyone else that they should win every single sport in collegiate history and we'll keep firin' and hirin' to prove it!
