have we won enough to declare this season a success?

I know dozens of you think the proof is only in our NCAA finish. Is this far enough so that we can say it was a successful season no matter what?

I spoke with some yesterday who declare this season to be a loss because we didnt win the conference. But if we win the ncaa's they would overlook it.

By my standards I am a little disappointed due to how we finished. I havent seen proof that we improved significantly over the season. But I have been happy with the March results obviously.

No, this is not far enough. Win tonight and I say we met reasonable preseason expectations. Make the final four or beyond and it's obviously a huge success.

But finishing 3rd in the conference, losing in the tourney semis, and bowing out in the sweet 16 would be a failure for a team led by 3 seniors and a junior with 100+ starts under their belts, including a lottery pick and national player of the year.

Need a win tonight IMO to be a complete success (granted, this is with honest expectations).

Final Four would be a huge success and a championship would mean I can die a peaceful Sooner fan when that day comes.

Yes and No. I wasn't satisfied with the regular season. Letting KU win outright was a disappointment. The Sooners were tons of fun to watch and all but it still sucks they didn't give the Jayhawks a run for their money. I'm still proud of them but I wanted just a little bit more. The Big 12 tourney was kind of meh. Nice win and an incredible loss.

The tournament. So much of it is luck. Sooners have a good draw and have had 2 nice wins. Have to be proud of that and it would have been a disappointment if they hadn't made it this far. At this point I'm happy and I won't be bummed out too much if they lose tonight.

This has got to be my favorite team to watch ever. So much character and they play at such a high level. I'm still amazed by the stat of consecutive starts together by the big 4. I'm going to miss Buddy, Cousins, and Spangler.

I think that's taking it a little far. We'll all be disappointed – no one more so than me – if we lose tonight to the aggies. But, this team has been more fun to watch and provided OU fans with more thrills, than any Sooners team in years. The journey, in this case, was as important as reaching the destination we've all been hoping for.

I, for one, refuse to let a loss tonight – or in the Elite 8 or Final Four – take away the joy I've felt since last November.

To me, there's a huge gap between having hopes that didn't pan out and considering the season a failure. No way I can consider a season in which we win 27 games and make it to the Sweet 16 a failure -- not by a mile.

We've previously won as many as 27 games just five times, and we've never played in a tougher conference than this season (and our nonconference schedule was solid, too). Will I be disappointed if we lose tonight? Sure. But we had exactly one loss all season that could truly be called a bad one (others -- Tech, ut -- were certainly disappointing, but not bad losses).

Sorry, but for my money, no way this season is a failure. In fact, it's one of the best in our history.

+1

This team may be my favorite team of all time no matter when the season ends. When you consider where we were when Isaiah and Buddy were freshmen and compare it to where we are today, it's phenomenal. They have set a wonderful example for the players who will follow them both in work ethic and the way they carry themselves on and off of the court. As a fan, I can't ask for more.

How long were we ranked in the top 5!?!? We got so much national exposure from everywhere. Buddy made ESPN several times and will likely be the national player of the year. Won a ton of games and had a extremely tough road.. I say SUCCESS!!

This group should make it to the elite 8 or final 4, but it's college basketball and crazy things happen. The Seniors hav brought more attention to the program and only done great things.

One accomplishment that never gets mentioned is the undefeated non conference record. I'm pretty sure that's the only time we've done that right?

Having said that, I believe the team will not be satisfied with anything less than a final four.

yup...enjoyed it as I sit back. Yes, there were many frustrating things, but as Coach K (Dookie) once said, if not winning the championship is a failure then 318 teams (or whatever the number is) failed...hardly.

I would definitely be disappointed if we can't win tonight. Just cause we've been ranked top 5 for most of the season.

This was a great team to watch, I really liked the Ryan Minor Jr year, Hollis price, eduardo Najera...the '88 team...all fun.

Kelvin and Tubbs did it more than once I believe.

The '86 team lost to Duke in Durham. That was a good Duke team, too. Lost in the Finals to Louisville.

Good catch, and thanks for the correction. That game came late in the season, which is how I missed it.

I don't know if any teams prior to Tubbs' arrival went undefeated in nonconference, but this year's team is the only one to do it since Tubbs was hired.

This is a tough question to answer. Most fans, on this board, had higher expectations than a 3rd place Big 12 finish and a Sweet 16. Especially in a year when way more went right (in terms of production and health) than went wrong.

So were our expectations too high, or would this team have underachieved? I don't know. Lose tonight and I'll be content, but not particularly happy, I guess.

And it isn't like we scheduled a bunch of scrubs like many other schools do. Out out of conference schedule was loaded with d1 like @memphis, creighton, wisky, nova on a neutral court, @ Lsu, @hawaii, harvard Washington state on neutral court..I'm forgetting others too. Really impressive to go through that gauntlet unscathed.

Billy did it once, in 1986. Kelvin never did it.

I was thinking Kelvin did it in 97 or 95 but I guess I was wrong and I was also thinking Billy did it during the long home winning streak but I guess I was wrong there too.

Anything less than elite 8 is a failure. Weve had some "neat" accomplishments but we've failed on the things that count. An elite 8 is where the OU team that has been playing lately should get or they will have underachieved. If that OU team from earlier this year shows up again, final four or they have slightly underachieved. This team is special with how many starts together. They should be counted on to atleast get to elite 8 imo.

I think we get there and then who knows.. all i do know it's this team despite all of their short comings, fights hard and is always in every single game
