Shepherd and McNeace

Lattin was great tonight. Brought the effort right from the tip.

I don't think I've ever seen a big man catch it on the block and shoot turn around jump shots like Lattin does nearly ever single time. Does he have ANY low post game at all? Why even throw it to him down there? It's maddening.

He is just playing the odds. Knows that odds he hits the turn around is much higher than finishing 2-3' from the bucket. :ez-laugh:

McNeace, Shepherd and Lattin should be starting. :D

*Shepherd started the second half. #Progress

Actually DSM started the 2nd half and immediately picked up his 3rd foul, and Sheperd came in.

I am in agreement that Sheperd should be the starter. We need both him and DSM this season, but they will backup Trae next year. I think this summer will be a time when Sheperd gains some muscle and becomes a much better player. I can even see him going to the wing at times because he is decent outside shooter.

If for no other reason, I would pick Sheperd ahead of DSM because he has 3 more years whereas DSM just has one.

Shep should probably be starting, but that has more to do with his age/class, than skill set. He needs to learn to be a pass first guy, and get our better scorers involved. He'll likely be doing that coming off the bench next season.

But it really doesn't matter who starts, he and Strong are both going to play quite a few minutes. In the next 3-4 games, since that is likely all we have left.

I think Lattin's advantage over McNeace on the defensive end gives him the edge right now. McNeace needs to work harder to get reboundng position and to get in position to shoot before he gets the ball rather than having to maneuver after he gets it. If he can improve those things it is no contest next year.

Shepherd did not play against good competition before coming to OU so he has had a bigger adjustment than most of the guys coming in. He is doing nicely and as he gains confidence he will contribute more in scoring. I would not be suprised to see him playing some 2 next year along with backing up Young at point. We seem to run our offense better when Shepherd is in even though he probably takes too long to get the offense going. His defense seems to be strong.

On another note Buford seems to be finding his game. We need Freeman to do the same and James just needs to stop forcing things. He has probably psyced himself out over not having Buddy, Cousins and Spangler around to carry the load.

Shepherd had a heckofa block against KU late, I did not know he could sky like that.
McNeace has a real gift scoring with his left or right hand. He needs to fill some holes but I compare him to Stacey King during his sophomore year and JM has an edge for sure.

This team and these players just keep getting better and better. The record just doesn't show it. Next year this will be a Sweet 16 team.

They all need to get stronger. It is amazing how many times Lattin and McNeace pick up fouls just because they can't hold their ground without pushing or being put in an awkward position.
Shepard and McGusty are very thin and need to get stronger also.
James needs to continue to get his body in shape. He has plenty of mass but needs to lower the body fat.

Could they MAKE the Sweet 16? Sure, just about anybody making the field could.

Will we be seeded as a top 16 team? Almost certainly not.

This is the No. 1 key to the offseason.
