saying that OU didnt play very good defense against Quinn and certainly against Stanford. Too true and a big gripe of mine. Before the season both the mens and womens' tteams worked hard on defense. The differrence was(is)Kruger started most practices working on defense. I wish sherri would do something like that-keep working hard and stressing good defense. Stanford shot 47% from behind the arc. i hope Sherri takes her announced determination "We've got to guard better" seriously enough to continually work on ithttp://www.soonersports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=31000

I saw kids this year very capable of playing "hair on fire" defense. Iowa State, Baylor, and both Texas games proved that. The kids have to buy in to playing forty minutes every game like that and then "really" good things will start happening for them. When we have the games that suck from behind the arc, our defense can be the deciding factor.

Very true! In spite of us being a much younger team than last year, I saw marked improvement in pretty much all facets of the game. We had some games that the defense was outstanding, some games that turnovers were low and some games that we shot the lights out. The next step is to become more consistent in these types of play and all together. I anticipate these areas to be more consistent next year but of course, they have to prove that. It looks to me that Gabbi and Peyton have really become vocal leaders of this team. KayKay some times is vocal leader as well. Gioya and Maddie are less vocal, it appears to me, but nevertheless can lead by their actions on the court. I hope, and think we will, see big improvement from the freshmen this year; Gabbi, Vivi, LaNesia and McKenna. Gileysa will be much as Vivi and Maddie were this year; recovering from injury. If T'Ona can develop her 3 point shot (which she made a couple that last couple of weeks) that would make her much more valuable.

But as you say Roc, strong defense can bail you out when offense isn't clicking and shots aren't falling. Excited for next year!

Want a reputation for defense? Put on a trapping zone as they bring the ball us. Get a reputation for quick-handed guards by playing some less than top ten teams. Let's Maddie and Peyton steal. Against TCU, Maddie became a nightmare for TCU. She stole it while they dribbled. She jumped up and caught passes and shots in midair to start fast breaks. She has the long arms to be able to do that, as well as the quickness. If she does it without being acknowledged, she'll end up being charged for fouls. If you broadcast that she is a thief, she can take it with impunity.

Sherri has wanted a long-armed defense that could haunt the passing lanes. Gabbi has short arms. But, Peyton and Maddie have long arms. Gioya can steal in passing lanes as long as she remembers not to go over their back. Gabbi seems to get into lanes. T'Ona has simply taken it away from some rather quick guards, surprising at times. Advertise it. That's what we do.
