Softball

This team is loaded and special. Hoping they can go all the way this year.

I can't believe we've already played 32 games! Only 6 or 7 have been in Norman, I think.

Blame it on ESPN. Trying to keep it on TV caused them to play during the rain. Never have seen softball or baseball play through the rain before.

OU is back to a unanimous choice for #1.

Thing is 'Bama had to play in the same rain. I could believe the way we fell apart - especially KR. Between the pitching we have along with the power I don't see us losing.

I'm going to the games in Lawrence next month. I'm looking forward to it.

Not quite. If I remember correctly, it started raining while they were pitching and it was much wetter by the time we were in the field.

All I remember was KR not being able to throw the ball. It's been a while since I played but once it gets wet it's wet. They should have played the game the next day. That's okay. We'll get it this year.

Ricketts and Traina throw very different pitches. Traina wasn't really affected by the rain. It may have even affected the hitters more than Traina. But, Ricketts uses a slider that depends on her footwork and, especially, on her traction. She simply could not get any traction for her pitches, and she had absolutely no control.

The rain, which should have stopped play, affected the game differently for different players. That is not the function of softball.

This. The Sooners would be going after their second straight national title this season if that game against the Tide had been called on account of the rain. Oh well, it is what it is. They say revenge is a dish that's better served cold. I'm just hoping its cold – and dry – if the Sooners get another shot at Alabama in the finals this year.

KR's difficulty in the rain was primarily a result of her putting so much spin on the ball in her pitching style while the Bama pitcher was dependent on the fast ball and the rise ball. Consequently it was easier for the Tide pitcher to maintain her control. Not so when depending on the slider and curve like KR.

While I think the game should have been postponed I wear Crimson colored glasses and must recognize that both teams played under the same conditions. Just a bad break for the Sooners. It happens.
