I am not in favor of cheating at all, but for the life of me why would a coach use a universtiy cell phone to cheat? Especially at OU, where the words "Kelvin" and "cell phone" are irreversiby linked.

I just think if you are going to cheat get your own dang cell phone, these guys get paid well, they can afford it. Heck when I was working for OU i opted out of the university cell phone plan and they gave me $35 month stipend to go towards my own cell phone bill.

Lastly, if was Castiglione, I would not issue any cell phones to any coach in any sport.

OU BB has done an overall poor job of cheating--I mean extra phone calls, and possibly an asst. coach knowing about a slime ball loaning only 3K to pay an overdue tuition bill. Pretty minor in my mind. Then we reaped no tangible rewards as Kelvin's class never made it on campus and Tiny left after one bad year. So no reward, yet full punishment in the first case and maybe more coming. Stupidity.

Why do you assume they cheated? Has anyone connected to anything come out and said cheating was going on? This could all be explained by something other than cheating, yet there seems to be an aweful lot of people ready to start sizing up nooses.

Let me start by saying I don't have facts to prove that anyone has cheated but: Because of the past problems, I am not sure why Joe C's office doesn't check the cell phone records of every coach and assistant coach at OU once a month and let them know he IS checking. It just seems like a prudent thing to do.

I am really pumped about the prospects of another thread about the same topic.

Oh get excited Senior, i'm guess 8-10 more before this is all said and done

Zzzzzzz......

Why don't we talk about the positive things that are going on with the program instead of droning on the negative, of which we have limited information and an excess of speculation.

If only it were that simple. Too many on this board want to re-enforce the negative every minute

We should start giving out Negative Nancy awards. Ha!

Is there any question that Kelvin and his staff made too many calls?

Also, from the facts so far, most are assuming something with the $3k broke a rule. I don't think we openly cheated by paying a player to play for OU, but it sounds like a rule might have been broken to help pay overdue tution and that we are under investigation again.

Calls between OT and a financial advisor would not have been suspicious, unless the compliance department already knew about the advisor's connection to Tiny.

What does Calipari do? He doesn't get caught doing who knows what? OU gets caught for all kinds of stupid stuff.

If OU could combine Calipari-like stealth with a program attempting to be clean, than the minor transgressions that seem to be popping up would never come to light.

True. It is also true that the calls between OT and financial advisor would not be suspicious if there was no record of them either.

Just for sake of argument, lets say Coach O asked Hauringer to loan money to Tiny's mom and he did, and then Tiny's mom paid the money back. After facilitating the loan, Coach O is out of the picture and isn't actually involved otherwise in the loan.

Assuming for sake of argument, this is what happened, does anyone know if this is a violation of NCAA rules? I don't know and am just wondering.

It seems to me that if the coach doesn't guarantee the loan or help repay it, perhaps it might be OK. If any of you NCAA rules gurus know the answer, I would appreciate your insight. Thanks.

if what you propose happened at worst it would be a very minor deal

I think that's the million dollar question. I'm going to go with YES it is a violation but that's JMO. Even if Coach O claims he did it without any other coach or member of the University of Oklahoma having been involved, I still think punishment could be handed down. Tiny and his mom could have made arrangements for a loan with a local CU or bank. My guess is they couldn't qualify for the loan or they would have just found a financial institution to loan them the money. So if it's what it appears to be, an OU assistant arranged for one of their players to receive a loan they wouldn't have otherwise qualified for to pay the tuition owed in order for said player to move forward in attending the college of his choice.

Hopefully there's more to the story and/or it isn't what it appears to be.

He's Italian. They have a handbook on how to work under the table undetected.

Castiglione needs to distribute it to all those under him.
