You look good early, but then everyone figures out you can't shoot from the outside, so as everyone starts packing it in, your offensive productions goes down.

Then, as you start missing an inordinate amount of outside shoots, you begin to try and drive and pass into traffic a lot and start having too many turnovers.

Then, everyone figures out that your bigs that are now taking all the shots, albeit contested ones in traffic, can't shoot free throws and so you simply ramp up your defense and start hacking and pushing your bigs. They begin to miss all of their shots and get dominated on the boards (as they get pushed under the boards), and when the officials finally call a few fouls, your bigs turn them into turnovers with missed free throws.

Before long, you simply can't score, get momentum and/or reward defensive effort and the entire thing just goes south.

In my view, this describes our womens team during the last 3 years of the Paris girls (mostly the soph and junior teams) and describes Texas' mens team this year.

Very simply, everyone now has an enormous amount of tape to watch and just knows how to defend them. They really don't have any reliable shooters from the outside -- Brown might become one in time.

I'm bad about this too, but I really don't think you can have a good grasp on how good a team is (you probably can tell if a team is bad) early in the year. Just about now, or maybe in the last week or two have we started figuring things out. UT isn't anywhere near as good as people thought. Really, outside of KU and maybe KSU, nobody is. The bottom of the league may be a bit tougher, but the top, outside of KU, is DOWN in a big way.

You may be right TU. If you think about it, would you rather have this year's texas team or last year's team. Early on, I would have said this years team, but now I would say last years team.

Just writing and thinking out loud, Kansas is better, K State is better, OU is worse, OSU is worse, TT might be better, Baylor is better, A&M = i don't know, Nebs = I don't know, MO = I don't know, Iowa State is worse, Colo is definately better.

So all in all, it is hard to say.

I have said since the start of the season however, that I think Kansas is the best team in the Country and I still think so. Great and experianced at the post and point, lots of bigs to take fouls and lots of ball handlers and shooters. Very deep and very well coached. Shoot free throws well and defend. Anyone can be beat, but they are the best team I have seen.
