Texas vs MississippiState

Texas looks really down right now. I'm sure at some point they'll get going but I think we could sweep them this year.

Miss State has some good players. Hopefully we don't no show against them.

When was the last time OU swept Texas in basketball? I will have to see that to believe it. It's been over a decade since we've swept them.

They usually are decent to really good. I'm not sure they are that right now. And we've got a pretty solid offensive squad.

If I were to put the SEC in tiers I think maybe about 3 or 4 teams are probably above us. Vandy, Alabama, Georgia, and Arkansas look the best. We are in the tier 2 witha bunch of teams that have a lot of flaws. Gotta see more of Missouri because Florida doesn't look as good this year. Auburn looks down. Kentucky looks a bit down. Tennessee looks way down from what they've been. I think our roster is more talented than it's been. But we'll see.

Miss State and Texas to me both look worse defensively than I've seen from OU and I've been critical of OU's defense at times this year.

I agree with this with a few adjustments:

Tier 1: Vandy, Alabama, and Arkansas - Top 15 teams no question
Tier 2: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky - Very solid on paper / metrics but some key flaws (e.g., Florida and Tennessee can't win a close game...and Georgia has played a worse schedule than us. 0 good wins and close wins against every meh team.)

One or two of these teams will rise up into the top two tiers.

Tier 3: Auburn, LSU, A&M, Texas, OU, Missouri - Grossly unbalanced (great offense / bad defense) or just not great at offense or defense. Lots of room for improvement

Not relevant:

Tier 4: Ole Miss, MSU, South Carolina - Bad teams.

I would agree with all of your takes, except Kentucky is not in tier 2.

I watched a lot of that. Miss St is better than I thought they were. It is going to be tough to beat them at home We better guard Hubbard.
Miss. State is currently #76 in Kenpom. Texas was, by far, their best win of the season. The next "best" win was at home against Memphis (#77) by 5. Any road game can be tough, but in this case, I think their game with Texas last night says a lot more about Texas (not being good) than it says about Mississippi State.

BTW, Texas' next three games, @Tennessee, @Bama, and Vandy at home......good luck with that.

This is a game that will say a lot about us. It’s not easy, but it’s a game that you need to win if you’re serious about meeting the expectations the team had for itself coming into the season. The bad noncon shrunk our margin for error, as did the struggles of the conference as a whole. These guys are certainly among the bottom few teams in the league. Lose this game and you’ll have to pick up an unexpected win down the road.

That could be. I had not seen Miss St play before so might have been Texas making them look better than I thought they were. But they were making some tough shots, shots that I don’t expect a bad team to make on the road. We shall see.

Bama, Vandy, Arkansas are in the top tier, but I won't be surprised if some combo of Florida, Tennessee, and UK make a push and improve as the season goes on.

I'll also say none of the teams near the top compare to the teams near the top of the SEC last year. Last years Kentucky team is probably the best team in the SEC by far this year. And they were maybe like 5th or 6th in the SEC
