The Good:

- The fullcourt man defense. Man I loved watching Romero, Tyler Neal, and Cam play the top trapper in Lon's fullcourt D. It has been a lot of fun to watch our guys get after the passing lanes and switch in the halfcourt. The communication and the intensity is a welcome change over what we've seen the past couple of years.

- Steven Pledger's right hand. It was good to have bird back in the lineup. I have a feeling that Pledger will really benefit from Lon's get out and go style of offense and will have plenty of good opportunites to catch and shoot from the wing (which is what he does best). Looking for a big year out of him.

- Carl to Cam. Never gets old, and that reverse slam was a thing of beauty.

- FT shooting. I think this team has a chance to be very good from the charity stripe. It appears that Cam is getting better rotation on his shot. Romero has a good touch. And I've always thought that Drew has a great approach from the FT line. Should be a team strength and will hopefully win us a game or two that we might not have otherwise won.

The Bad

- Turnovers. We had one stretch were we had 5 straight and they were all unforced. After an excellent first 10 minutes of taking care of the basketball, the team sure looked careless. Something to address for sure.

- Pledger's halfcourt defense. I hope it is going to better than it looked last night because there were several times where we had great team D going and he let his guy get past him. He looks like he has gotten his body in better shape so hopefully that translates to better defense (I think Carl's has improved).

- Finishing inside. Arent, Cam, Drew, Romero, Neal, Pledger, and Calvin all missed some chip shots and we just aren't (no pun intended) going to be good enough of a team to not convert the vast majority of easy looks within 8 feet. Casey was the worst yesterday. Loved his hustle, but my goodness does he need to finish better around the rim. Hopefully that will come with experience for him as he adjusts to big boy basketball.

The Ugly

- Drew's rebounding numbers. He certainly owned up to it in the postgame interviews. He is going to have to get some defensive rebounds. I understand that he shoots a lot of midrange jumper on offense but there is no excuse for him to not have a half a dozen rebounds.

- Frashilla's body slam. Thought that Mike Houck was going to need to go get a giant spatula to pry him from the wood floor after that spill. Credit to the little guy for popping back up. He is going to be a fan favorite.

Hope you will post your own version from what you saw of this game.

I also hope you will do your part to get some bodies to the LNC next Friday for Lon Kruger's official debut. This team is very likeable both on and off the court and it is obvious that they are working hard and playing as a team. It would be nice to see them rewarded with some decent fan support.

BT

Sorry to single you out BT, but something I have not seen in any of the game recaps is Cam's swat off the glass in the first half. Did you guys see how high up he was?!? Wow.

I'm just stoked that we look to have improved. The main thing that I didn't want to see was us passing the ball around the 3 point line until we jack up a bad shot right before the shot clock expires. I also saw guys making shots for the most part. Both of those things are an improvement over last year. That being said I watched both games on a motorola Razr so I'm sure I missed a lot.

If Fitzgerald doesn't start to rebound we may need to start refering to him as Ms. Fitzgerald and/or Andrea. He is a good basketball player and he simply has to have more motivation to rebound.

If LK insists on Pledger trying to play pressure man to man defense, he is going to get beat a lot this year. Pledger can be a solid defender, but it's going to be in the mold of what I believe Kelvin taught, which is solid, positional defense, not necessarily aggressive in your face defense. Pledger isn't built for that.

The Ugly: Romero Osby's three-point attempts that end up being shot backwards (over his head). The one he tried on the baseline in the first exhibition ended up in the first row, and it wasn't blocked.
