Not only do I want him back for selfish reasons, if I was his personal adviser/family member I'd BEG him to stay. It appears Buddy loves playing college basketball. From what we can tell, he is very tight with his teammates and has been through a lot with these guys. I am assuming those things. If that isn't true, then the rest might be moot.
He is a very good college basketball player, but I see his current NBA prospects as somewhere between a longshot and very bleak. He isn't a superior athlete and he isn't a guy teams will look at as having great "upside." On the NBA level, he isn't all that big for shooting guard and he can't play the point. He is a streaky shooter, not a dead eye shooter. You never know.. Maybe in the perfect situation he'd find a niche somewhere, but again I see it as a longshot. I'd be stunned if he was a first round pick. Which means he wouldn't get a dime of guaranteed money.
I am sure he could make some good cash overseas. But unless there is some sort of financial crisis going on, why rush it? He has one more opportunity to live the college life, be with his teammates, and make a run at some pretty big goals. If he comes back, it wouldn't be wild to say OU has Final Four holes for next season.
The risk if catastrophic injury in basketball isn't very high. You very rarely see college seniors suffering injuries that eliminate them from playing professionally. In other words, he can realize whatever pro dreams he has next year. And who knows, with a stellar senior year he might very well increase his value.
