Good grief, Al the chimp, Jim the OSU loser living in Norman now and Dean the facelift kid sound like church ladies talking about the OU job. These guys are clueless and have zero inside info. I love it totally out of the loop.

Dean is spazzing over Buzz Williams.

What amazes me about these guys is it appears they never have a production meeting. If they did, and they decided they were going to talk about the OU coaching search, surely someone would take some time to do a little research on who may or may not be getting hired.

what amazes ME is that it is such an intelligence vacuum.

Actually Deeeeeeeean was on the money when no one else was on the Mike Anderson to Arkie move. Not tO take up for him but he seemed to have solid info on OU and Buzz

yep, dean said he has a friend who spoke to buzz on saturday and was given the indication that buzz wants to be at oklahoma...

Those little princeses over on the Geranimal are quite charming to say the least, but there egoes are bigger than their brains!!Go Sooners!!!!

I occasionally tune in when 1400 is on commercial. It is either everyone making a big deal over something stupid or a caller asking a question and them basically saying "i don't know." I don't know why they can't hire anyone with an IQ of at least 100. I mean they make the Walmart workers look like professors.

Al's taking on message board sources now. "They don't know anything!" Sounds like Al's a little frustrated that he is totally out of the loop...

WWLs has changed from a caller/info show to more opinion/rant show. Maybe the internet has a lot to do with this? They seem to know as much or less than some posters do these days.

Three things I've always wondered about that station

1. Why people still listen.
2. Why the station can't/won't hire competent staff.
3. How much they pay guys like Traber, Eshbach, etc, etc.

Eschbach used to make over 200K, at least that's what I heard. Not sure if he still makes that kind of dough but he did at one time.

The first thing answers #2 and #3.

As long as they're the only game in town, those guys aren't going anywhere, because why would they? All they have to do is point to the ratings.

And it really is amazing how little effort the on-air people, particularly Eschbeck and Traber, put into their show.

Eschbeck knows about OU football and Traber knows about Major League Baseball (1980s only)... collectively they pretty much know d**k about anything else.

(Of course, they *think* they know about Thunder/NBA, but the hilarious thing is that the total time on the Sports Animal spent discussing the NBA in the entire decade before the Hornets and then Thunder arrived was what... maybe 20 minutes?)

That's one reason why it's always hysterical to me when Berry Trammel is on... I know some people don't like Trammel because he a columnist, but the guy is a hard-working reporter who knows his stuff, unlike Jim and Al who basically scan the Daily Oklahoman and possibly the Tulsa World as their primary sources of sports information.

One of my favorite exchanges was one time several months ago, they were arguing about something and Traber was doing his normal "scream real loud" thing while Trammel was doing his "calmly state facts" thing. Of course this was driving Traber nuts, and he shot to Trammel, "But how do you know?!"

Trammel shoots back, "Because I talk to people, Jim. You haven't talked to anyone since you left the dugout!"

I don't know if people realize but a vast majority of the radio stations in the US are owned by about 15 large conglomerates. One of course owns WWLS as well as several others in the metro. My understanding is several of these have looked at a sports radio format as they have other stations in the market. These groups have done market analysis and totally have decided they don't want to mess with the Sports Animal. The Sports Animal has one of the highest ratings in its marketplace for its size of any in the country for a sport talk format. Their market share is really absurd for a sports station. Listen to KREF or there is another one. You sure aren't forced to listen to the Animal. Those talk show hosts make a barrell of money.

I asked a friend of mine a year or so ago who works at another station why someone else didn't come in and they said it was way to much of a risk and would fail to turn a profit for a long time.

Sometimes I think Trammel intentionally takes the opposite side of Jim just to mess with him. One example is when Traber was complaining that his teeth hurt because he went to the dentist that day. Trammel took the side that he loved going to the dentist and wished he could go once a week.
When he does this, he makes Jim look like the mental midget that he is.
