Trae Young on SportsTalk Network

Found this article about Trae, he was recently on with James Hale and Steve Marshall. It sounds pretty encouraging for the Sooners. There is a long ways to go in the recruiting process, but OU has to like their chances.

Here is the interview as well: http://sportstalk1400.podomatic.com/entry/2016-01-20T11_55_54-08_00

Not that long as basketball dudes tend to recruit early. Not sure if that's his case though.

I feel really good about getting this kid. If he stays at North, I think we are a lock. Going to prep school drops our chances, IMO, but I think they've put in great work so far on him. Sounds like a good kid. Could be the missing piece to a potentially great run at OU.

Not if he decides by end of summer / early fall. He will have not been out of Norman for long. But to your point, the longer he waits to decide, the more OU's chances decrease.

or he could go to prep school and decide that he misses home and his family .. and decide to stay close for college ..

Apparently their plan is to decide by then. I worry they won't make that deadline and he then goes off to prep school as basically a free agent. I do not like our chances as much if that happens. I don't even like our chances as much if he commits then goes off to prep school. I don't see this kid being one to sign in the early period and I like our chances better if he is in Norman unsigned than off at prep school unsigned.

I guess it would be an ideal situation if he committed, went to prep school, signed early, and spent the 2nd semester recruiting on our behalf...

Let him and his dad do what they want...gonna do it anyway. Then if it's meant to be he'll end up in Norman.

If we land Bolden, that will change everything and could most likely cost us Young b/c since Bolden isn't a top 10 player on any recruiting site, he will most likely be back the following year. With Manek already committed, that leaves only one scholarship available and that could come down to which PG commits first. If Young draws this out, the less likely we will get him...that is, of course, based on the fact we land Bolden. Cause I don't see Kruger putting his eggs in one basket and we already know that he's recruiting Chandler and I'm sure he's recruiting other PG's as well. If McGusty can run point, then the time frame for Young to commit is even smaller b/c of Jasey and some small forwards as well.

There will be a scholarship available if Young wants it.

Even if he has not encouraged kids to transfer, I think it is likely someone will. I don't want them to but i recognize someone will likely want more PT then he is getting. That just seems to be part of college basketball today and I honestly, i don't really blame the guys that transfer. I think I would rather start at North Texas than never play at OU.

I understand Frank Booker was "encouraged" to transfer after last season.........

you don't think lon has "encouraged" some kids to transfer?

I think I've seen lon has moved on from top recruits more then he has encouraged kids to transfer. Outside of Capel recruits, I don't think he encouraged any player to transfer. Hornbeak and Booker left because they saw the writing on the wall. They weren't going to start here. Especially since he didn't use their scholarship once they left. Bookers wasn't used til grandstaff transferred in during mid year.

Untrue. Booker wasn't coming back even if he wanted to be a walk on.

Hornbeak didn't fit. Mutual parting of ways

If they're serious about this "package" deal, it lowers OU's chances, methinks. All of the real heavy-hitter, blueblood programs will be hanging all over them.

Love to see this kid wind up a Sooner, but the pessimist in me says it's about maybe 30-40% chance he ends up in the C&C.
