Transfer Portal 2027

It's only awesome to OU fans. Women's basketball kills it in ratings, revenue, everything. Only OU fans give a damn about softball. It's kind of sad after a while to be honest.
This isn’t remotely true. In fact, it would be hard to be more wrong if you tried. TV ratings are way up. They have a new pro league that is expanding. Attendance at the World Series and Supers is great.

And comparing the tv ratings to basketball is silly. College baseball also gets killed in the ratings by men’s college basketball. Basketball has a much longer history of being a successful college sport. Hell, as recently as the late 90s, a lot of power conference schools didn’t even care about baseball, let alone softball. And honestly, without the NBA propping up the WNBA and Caitlin Clark drawing so much attention a couple years ago to the college game, the ratings wouldn’t be where they are. Softball is doing it on its own, and not based on one player or based on celebrities sitting at games and promoting the sport.

K. It is true on everything I stated. Ratings, revenue, everything. It is correct. LOL.

TV ratings are still horrible for softball. Averaging 229 thousand.

Womens College basketball here you go:

We'll ignore all that and just say "softball is growing hur dur."

Okay. That mid softball league has been around for a long ass time too. Just last weekend in the WNBA the Las Vegas Aces has a 1.25 million rating vs the Atlanta who cares? Again. What are you talking about? Softball is still trash nation wide. Congrats on it gaining mid popularity. Still has mid ratings and 2.4 million watched the championship last year while 9.9 mill watched the womens basketball championship. Over 5 years ago the womens softball championship peaked at 2 million viewers. This isn't the flex you think it is my man. Again, softball is a sport the majority of the nation doesn't even have in their top 10 for sport watches. But for OU fans? IT'S THE GREATEST THING SINCE THE CUPCAKE WAS INVENTED.

I cannot wait until these useless sports, especially softball goes under. I do not care about a sport that no one at any sports bar (except in Oklahoma) would asked to be turned on a channel.

You must be a pretty miserable person. And/or a misogynist. It’s so strange to want a sport to fail just because you don’t personally like it.

As for OU, if our women’s programs go away, our athletic department will pretty much suck since gymnastics and golf are about the only consistent winning men’s program we have had over the last half decade.

Do better.

Na. They'll just concentrate on the sports that matter in CBB and CFB. The LITERAL reason we're all here. Not softball. Thank God. I'm tired of people pretending like they actually enjoy softball. I legit do not know one person that watches softball in my entire life here on the East Coast. NOT ONE. Useless sports to me include all the ones that aren't CBB and CFB mind you. So...............

I tell my FIL this all the time "OU won another title in gymnastics or another sport that you didn't know they won a title in." He laughs and goes, "will they ever win a title in a sport that actually matters?" That's what the general population thinks. I know this is hard for you to hear, but it seems like you have your head buried in the sand.

Well nice, then it is still equal AD funding for men's and women's sports. I never meant to imply that revenue sharing was meant to be equal (I never said this). I meant solely in terms of AD funding. If you give all your Revenue Sharing to men's sports, then it is highly likely funding cuts will be made from men's sports, to offset this funding boost towards men's sports
no its not ... football has more funding then every other sport at the school combined .. funding is not close to equal ..

I'm utterly shocked at how some think softball is on the same level as other sports that generate WAY more revenue.

Some sports have value beyond the revenue they generate. Softball is one of those for OU. It keeps our brand in front of a national audience in the offseason. It's not on the same level, but it does outpace its cost because of the broader brand value.

Volleyball, track, tennis, golf, etc. don't bring that value.

this is exactly correct .. it is basically an OU pr ad on national TV for over a month a year ..

Anyone saying that no one enjoys college softball should attend – just once – the Women's College World Series. If you actually believe what you're saying, you'll either be forced to change your mind or you'll simply lie and say it ain't so.

Fair point

This is not true. A simple Google search will tell you that funding is based off the proportion of the student body. If 55% of the students are female, then 55% of scholarship monies go to female athletes (that is federal law, not a damn thing a school can do about it). The way to get around it for football is by having baseball have like, 20 full scholarships to split amongst the whole team (all non-revenue men's sports are like this). But for women's sports, all scholarships are full rides.

Revenue sharing is not a part of this, but scholarships certainly are.

this is not accurate at all .. all sports now are all full scholarships for EVERY roster spot .. that was the house settlement that a FEDERAL JUDGE signed off on .

Was that the score bill. It was pulled and not voted on as cbc advised they would not vote for it.

Never have I seen a person so clueless about some sports. Have you seen the softball attendance at OU? The OU Softball teams makes money at the gate. Hell, they sell out every game and have for years. Yes, they have the nicest and largest softball stadium in the nation. Yes, big donors paid for that operation. You have to donate to get seats and it almost impossible to get a seat now. By the way, you say that the TV doesn't want them, well OU has more televised softball games than anyone in the country. One other thing, who cares what they are watching on the East Coast. There is enough people in the Southwest including Texas and Oklahoma that watch softball.

OU softball does not generate a profit. At least, they didn't in 2024 or before. They lost almost $3M that season.

Sit this one out. EVERY sport minus men’s basketball and football lost money.
