May have been discussed in another thread, but I have been shying away from this site - even though it is the least volitale of any OU site in any sport - since the TT loss.

What I thought was interesting and was pointed out to me by my 8th-grade basektabll playing son, was TT defensive strategy and how it differed from any other team this year.

Did you notice - especially in the first half how they were simply not helping on penetration from the wings. OU seemed so locked into the drive and dish, that they had countless passes to TT wing defenders. And even when OU was able to squeeze a pass to a wing shooter, there was a TT guy there.

It took OU an entire half to adjust and finally, when Hornbeak and Cousins started finishing at the rim, OU made a run.

Maybe OU can learn from this and not take so long to make those adjustments. Woodard looked a little lost in all of this and, of course, he has a harder time finishing at the rim because of his size than Cousins or Hornbeak.

Be interesting to see if other teams use a similar strategy. Ford is probably too busy CYA-ing his own job to pay much attention, but on down the line this is something to watch for. Really brilliant coaching move from Tubby Smith.

I didn't see the first 30 minutes of the game, but that makes sense. That is what you do to a team that is a penetrate and kick type of team. If I was OU I wouldn't definitely do that with Woodard and make him beat me rather than help and let him kick to open shooters. OU has guys that can finish, they just have to look to do that when the defense isn't helping.

I agree. We are used to defenses collapsing and our coaches stress making the right pass. Sometime when they are going to guard you one on one the strategy needs to be beating your man.

I thought their offensive strategy was interesting too. They knew we switch on screens so they kept getting good matchups for Crockett on smaller guards, namely Woodard.

Yea Tubby knows how to coach. What they did differently was involve their bigs. We were switching every screen, even big on little - which created some matchups with Woodard on Crockett and the other bigs. I haven't seen OU do that much this season. They always switch the perimeter guys - ALWAYS. Don't recall OU switching off bigs. Not sure if this was a TT adjustment or an OU change?
