No, OU was playing an average to slightly below average D-II team. Those kids get scholarships. They were all pretty good high school players but not quite good enough to play D-I.

That team sucked! Only 2 returning players from a crappy year.
 
It looked like one of the guys was the guy that runs out after kickoffs to pick up the tee

More than once during the game I thought to myself "geez, if #20 could get a college basketball scholarship, I definitely could have." :) That kid did not look like he belonged on a college basketball court.

yeah that's the main one I am thinking of. But there were also some others. Mostly all their big men

We all get better in our own minds as we get older.
 
If #20 is on scholarship I have NO doubt I could have made the UCO squad...

FYI guys, Strassle is a walk-on and a great kid.

I wish some you guys that talk a big game would look him up in Edmond and play a little pickup with him. The dude was a 6'3" wing/post on a top 3-4 team (Mustang) in 6A about 2 years ago. I watched him wear out/hang tough with some pretty damn good players on the 6A level that year. He has a pretty diverse game and is tough as hell. That team was one game away from the state tourney and I think was ranked #1 at one point that season. He's not gonna WOW anyone, but you'd probably have a bit more respect for him if you ever got on the court with him.

Haven't you heard, everyone who posts on sports message boards is a D-1 talent, able to defend MJ, post up Shaq, run a 4.4 40, or coach at the level of Wooden/Switzer/or phil Jackson. :):)

I don't think MOST people really realize how talented a D1 player is. That kid can play and has played against really good competition. I bet some of the guys who've watched HS hoops over the past few years watched him play, realize he was way undersized, but could handle himself pretty well against some D1 level players...

Oh, and if you question his athletic ability, he was one of the leading receivers on that year's football team that took Jenks to the wire in the semis...he'd never played football until THAT YEAR.
 
I'm sure he is a great guy and honestly I believe he would be a really tough guard in a pickup game as he looks to be pretty thick and was surprisingly fairly quick for his stature. While in my old age now I'm sure he would dominate in a game of 1-1, but I think I would have been on par back in my day lol. That's cool he walked on and is getting PT. Had similar opportunities in the day, but chose academics instead...

Additionally, I THINK he All-stated in soccer that year as well, but I could be wrong. He's a super athlete.
 
I remember watching a four-year bench warmer under Tubbs and thinking I could play with him. I had the opportunity. I might as well have been without arms and legs. Those guys are the best that HS had to offer, and they have had even more time in college.
 
I used to see Ray Willis playing pick-up games at the Huff back in the day.
He looked just as bad against that competition as he did on the floor for OU.
 
They don't have any out of state scholarships so they are heavily depended on high school state talent, oklahoma juco players, and division one oklahoma transfers.

So when that's down, then they will be down.
 
How, somebody took a couple of half-joking comments WAY too seriously.

The best basketball players and athletes don't always play college or even HS ball. Some of the better guys I've played against were guys that couldn't make the grades or stay off the weed long enough to stay eligible for HS ball. Doesn't mean they couldn't beat up on some walk-ons at small schools though.
