Thats cool that Krugers old squad beat UNC. Dave Rice doesnt deserve all the credit for the big win. Kruger did a lot to get that group where they are today. But Rice does deserve some credit for coaching them just like Kruger deserves some of the credit for any success OU has the next 2 years with Capels players.
It's really hard to judge coaches their first year at a new school, but it's fun to debate. For instance, did the new coach at VCU deserve all the credit for getting to the NCAA tourney and beating Duke, or did Capel deserve the credit for getting Manor and company there in the first place? He left that school in good shape, and despite Telefono and Tiny Gallon's mess, he left us with a squad that should be pretty solid the next two years.
I think we're lucky to have Kruger. I love his style of play. I think his track record speaks for itself. But for most coaches, I dont think you accurately evaluate the job they've done at a new school until the 2nd or 3rd year when they've gotten they've had a chance to recruit players to fit their system.
I"ll be saying the same thing 2 months from now when we're taking our lumps in Big 12 play and people are questioning Kruger.
