Due to the advantages of cable and the internet, I have now seen a reasonable number of these prospects. I must admit that I think the rankings must be influenced by something other than potential for basketball in D-1. There are players that I have seen in the top ten that I don't think will make a good college team. Since a prospect that I don't currently have a high opinion might actually sign with OU, I won't give names. But, I have seen point guards that can't handle the ball and who were absolutely destroyed by unknown point guards in both AAU and international ball. I have seen great athletic forwards that left me wondering why Felisha Gibbs wasn't a top ten prospect since she had more athleticism and about the same ability to shoot. The best prospects that I have seen in AAU were players that I had never heard of.
I watched a team that had Holmes, Cox, Durr, Samuelson (as well as Mulkey and Dungee) almost get destroyed by a Spanish team that had no prospects that anyone had ever heard of, and Duke got the best prospect in that game, Salvadores. I don't know how the US pulled that game out of the fire, except for the putbacks of Cox, the only US star who lived up to her reputation.
Rankings are never going to be spot on but I have noticed that our best players have almost always been those ranked in the top 30.
Jonah Johnson. I noticed no OU coach is following her anymore on twitter. I really like Vivian Gray. She surely has shot up in ranking. Also Madison Treece. OU should have a shot.
I like Gray a lot. Treece must be playing really well because the gurus are very high on her. Too bad we seem to be out of the race to sign Johnson. I hate to see great players like that leave the state.
