So I saw that Taylor has a concussion, but what's up with Washington? I had not heard anything about him being injured. When can we expect these guys back?

Who will end up getting redshirted this year? I notice both Ahmed and Neal played. Didn't see Hardrick in the box score. Is he going to play at all?

All good ?'s. My guess is that none of them redshirt. The reasoning is we either need them (washington, taylor) or we only need them for 2 years (JUCO guys) or 4 years (hardrick) to get more scholarships open.

If Hardrick can't get PT in an exhibition game in which we had the likes of Big Puma and Ahmed out there for key stretches of the 2nd half, my guess is that he will not see one minute on the floor this year.

In the past I have advocated keeping Hardrick around IF he is a good student, but I am starting to rethink that position. If it's between Hardrick and a top flight PG we can bring in for 2011 then Hardrick might need to quit the team to "focus on other things".

Yeah he will. Capel will put him in for a combined 10 minutes throughout the year. SO that he cant redshirt. He needs to transfer. Its a clear signal to him that he wont play here. Unfortunately, we need his scholarship badly.

Yeah, you're right, I forgot that you redshirt if you don't play at all. I've just never considered a situation where we actually NEED to burn a player's redshirt. :facepalm

Yea, i think he played for 6 minutes last year. I was surprised that he didnt play last night. Even though I know hes not very good its still an exhibition game!

Can a player play in an exhibition game and still retain the possibility of a redshirt? Since they aren't "real" games, I would assume it wouldn't matter.

But yeah... redshirts aren't for basketball. If a guy really needs that extra year, he's probably not worth the scholarship in the first place. You don't have time to spend five years developing a project when you only have 13 scholarships to work with. Wisconsin has used the redshirt a few times (once on a McDonald's All American), but I can't think of any other major program that has. It just doesn't make sense to tie up the scholarship for an extra year when you could go out and get someone who can actually help the team immediately.

Hardrick is gone as soon as they find someone to take his scholarship. The sad part is, They can't find anyone to take his scholarship.

Your limited on scholarships so they will get rid of him eventually. Just a matter of time.

He will not be here next year, along with someone else on the roster I would imagine. That would leave us room for a pg and another player.

I would like to know where all this open scholarship next year info is coming from. If It's actual credible info or just speculaition because we want to sign another kid for next year. Hardrick may transfer or whatever, I understand that and don't mind talking about it, but where is this other scholly going to come from?? Nobody else on this team is going to transfer unless they just aren't happy at OU. I think if anyone thinks we are going to have an additional scholly next year outside of possibly hardricks you are fooling yourself. Unless you have it on good authority that someone else is going to leave.

Outside of Hardrick, I don't know. I do know that they wanted to get rid of him this past year but w/ Gallon, Willis, TMG, Allen, and Warren all leaving early....they had hard enough time filling the vacant spots(very credible)

Cade is a senior. By graduating, his scholarship becomes available.

There is a difference between filling unexpected openings late in the recruiting period and filling a spot that you have all year to work on. Cam and TJ were highly rated players. Goff is a highly rated player. There is no reason to think Capel can't bring in another highly rated player given time. His problem has been keeping players, not signing them.

If T.J.'s concussion was that bad it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up redshirting by "default"

I didn't hear anything to suggest that it was worse than an average concussion, has there been anything or are you going off the fact that he didn't show up for the game? JW.

His concussion took place in early September and he is still have issues with it almost two months later. That is not a good sign for his health.

This is what Guerin Emig (Tulsa World, OU beat writer) tweeted earlier today.
Capel said Taylor "is still going through some things with the concussion, some symptoms."

If the concussion has had this much impact it might be better to let him redshirt this year. It also gives him more time off his ankle injury.

Goff has that one already

He was asking where a scholarship would come from other than Hardrick potentially transferring. You are correct that Goff has Cade's, signing another player would require Hardrick or someone else to transfer. History at OU, and frankly most D-1 programs, tells us that one or more players currently on scholarship will leave after this season.
