Hopefully Capel hasn’t gotten any better in Thanksgiving week events since our 0-3 Maui run concluded with the Chaminade loss.
We already have several 300 teams on the schedule. People were doing cartwheels last summer when they saw some of the power conference teams on the schedule. That only matters if they are good. Pitt is usually not good. They went 13-20 last year. If they are one of the five best teams we play, it means we have another bad schedule. This is where Moser needs to learn his damn lesson. It was pretty easy to see last offseason, based on things like NET and KenPom, that some of the bigger games on our schedule weren’t likely to be good. DePaul likely would have been a better opponent for us.Solid start to the schedule. Need to replace a few of the Alford states and 300+ teams with a few MAC or CUSA teams in the 200’s. I’m sure we’ll play 5-6 P5 opponents when it’s finalized
Very late summer or early fall.when does the full schedule typically get released?
This is funny to me considering we might have made the tournament one or twice in recent years had we played 2-3 more 200 teams rather than 300 teams. It doesn't take a lot to move off the "1st out" line. Of course, winning conference games helps too, but there are multiple ways to improve a resume. We’re going to play a Quad 1 game virtually every night in the SEC. Don’t lose so many close ones again and we’ll make the tourney. It’s that simple.
And we’re going to play Purdue, ASU and probably a couple of other likely tourney teams.
Still bitching about the schedule is LOL, especially when it’s about whether we play RPI 200 or 300 teams.
Surely you can't be using Arizona State as an example of an opponent that will help our schedule? The same ASU that rarely makes the tourney and was so bad last year it fired its coach? And the same team that was arguably our most damaging loss of the season? We’re going to play a Quad 1 game virtually every night in the SEC. It’s the same argument. Many ways to skin a cat.Surely you can't be using Arizona State as an example of an opponent that will help our schedule? And to your first point, just rinse and repeat. You and Coach and a few others who don't understand scheduling make this argument every year. Sadly, we know based on Moser's history that he will, in fact, lose most of his conference games, especially the Q-1 games. Our softball team could afford to play a soft noncon because they not only play in the best league in the nation, they thrive in that league. For them, a weak noncon is the difference between being the top overall seed or the third overall seed. Our basketball team loses close to two-thirds of its league games, so, yeah, the other 13 games matter a hell of a lot. It is the difference between making the tourney, or playing in a fake tourney in Vegas against teams missing several players to the portal.
No, you’re wrong. We can’t go .500 in conference. Moser has proven that five straight years. And most years, he hasn’t even come close. So, again, when you know that path A is an impossibility as long as Moser is recruiting and coaching at his current level, then it is essential to beef up the noncon. It’s the same argument. Many ways to skin a cat.
You can play 16 straight 200+ and go .500 in the sec and we are in.
Or you can schedule 8 top 100’s 8 top 200 and go 8-8 and go .500 and get in.
Or you could schedule many more ways! Go above 500 in sec and go 4-12 in preseason and not get In.
I will Say!
I want some better home games in non conference.
(Read that line above again)
Out of conf play hasn’t kept us out of the ncaa tournament. Our conf record has.
I want some better home games in non conference.
.
I understand wanting better early season home games. The problem is — no one goes. What he said!!!!
You realize that there are actual basketball reasons to play good/better teams, right?I understand wanting better early season home games. The problem is — no one goes.
I’ve posted the stats before and they are bad. It was bad under Lon, too.
We play, most years, in the toughest (or second toughest) conference in the country. We face plenty of good teams in the SEC and always add a handful of tough non-con games. I’d be happy if one or two of those were in Norman, or at least in Oklahoma. You realize that there are actual basketball reasons to play good/better teams, right?
Again, I don’t care whether you understand it or not. Moser is a crap coach. We are going to keep losing winnable SEC home games. We know it. Everyone knows it. It isn’t changing. He isn’t a good enough coach to change that part. What can and should change, especially now that we have a GM and an AD who claims to care about the program, is the scheduling philosophy. We play, most years, in the toughest (or second toughest) conference in the country. But spare me the lecture on RPI metrics, because I don’t care. My biggest criticism of Moser is losing SO MANY winnable SEC games AT HOME. As the first team out, one win is quite literally the difference.
That’s where it begins and ends for me.
You’re a clueless dweeb if you think it’s impossible for us to win one more home game per year in the SEC.Again, I don’t care whether you understand it or not. Moser is a crap coach.
