The No. 2 Westmoore stifled Norman North, holding the Timberwolves to just 10 points in the first half of a 64-36 victory in the regional final Saturday at Westmoore.
The Jaguars (23-2) also got a bit of luck, drawing No. 10 Deer Creek, which upset No. 8 Putnam City West at PCW, in the area final Thursday. Jessi Murcer led the Jags with 25 points, most of which came in the second half. Still, the team’s defense was the real star. Westmoore not only held the T-Wolves to just 21 points over the first three quarters, but it also smothered North’s shooters, holding top scorers Jacie Evans and Kenna Sturgell to just 6 points.
“We were really focused in,” Westmoore coach Andrea Guziec said. “We studied some of the things they were going to try to do offensively and communicated really well between players and coaches and players. We did a fantastic job defensively.”
