what happened to ray willis

Neither...he's just not strong enough to defend or disciplined enough to add any value on offense.

Ray is hanging out on the bench with the other 5 guys that have earned a free ride but don't play.

This is all Kevin Wilson's fault. The players and Coach Capel have done nothing wrong.

Ray is not a Big 12 caliber player. There is a reason no SEC or ACC teams is offering a kid from Georgia.

maybe jeff capel was going off of phil jackson coaching and trying to get guards with long wingspans but he forgot to check off the can play at D1 basketball level

Ray had a good high school career. He is a talented offensive player. But all last season and this season his attitude and work ethic have been lacking. There have been many players that have come to OU with less ability that had worked themselves into good players by this point in their career. IMO he just hasn't really wanted it.

What sours me the most about him is the way he conducts himself during the games, on the bench, in the huddle, in warmups. Everywhere. During the pregame shootaround on Saturday when everybody was practicing shots that they will shot during the game he was throwing balls up trying to knock their shots out of the air. He was the only one clowning around the entire time.

During huddles he rarely ever pokes his head in and listens to the coach....something Orlando Allen, Beau Gerber, and Andrew Fitzgerald always do, but something Kyle Cannon and Juan Patillo rarely did. I'm sure the coaches notice that and it probably has something to do with his lack of PT. He is usually the only one still sitting down clapping when big moments happen in the game. You may see Orlando, Cade, Leary, Pledger or even Crocker or Blake (when they were hurt) jumping up and down when we hit a big basket. But who do you see sitting there moping, or clapping his hands (a la Tony Neysmith) with a blank expression on his face...Ray Willis.

He checked out long ago, and I don't see why he's still here.

If his attitude is so bad, why did Capel keep him when he got in trouble last season? I don't know if you are right or wrong about this but I think when a guy with a bad attitude and work ethic gets in trouble that is the perfect time for a coach to move him to another school. Basically a fresh start for everyone. Given that Capel has kicked several guys off the team, I would speculate that Capel likes Ray Willis or sees a lot in him.

Ray has remained under the radar this year with player issues but do you not remember the stabbing incident his first year? He hasn't done much for the program since he's got here.

All coaches have their reasons for kicking players off a team but it's a tough thing to do. Once you've brought them in, you try and work with them, and hope you can get something out of them. He played well at the high school level. Just hasn't produced since he's gotten here.

It will be interesting to see who chooses to stay, and who chooses to leave once the season is over. Hard to predict what this team will be like next year when we don't know who will even be on our team next year. I'm confident that Capel will make the right changes for all. It's been a rough season. No one wants to repeat it again.

It is feeling more and more as if we may have way more scholarships to give out after this semester is over.

You have no idea why appears to be somewhat disconnected from the team. Unless you are inside the program you are just guessing. Please don't assume character issues when you don' t have actual first hand knowledge. There is always two sides to every story and you don't have knowledge of either.

I agree. No one outside of the program is qualified to make statements about the guy's character.

Denver, the only trouble I remember for Ray was getting stabbed in a dispute between two other people at seven. If there was more to it I'm sorry, but I'm a little hesitant to use getting stabbed against a kid.
