Look, I understand that a lot of people are unhappy that Porter is back. I was surprised he got another year. But I’m not going to root against my team. Now that we’re through the portal, we know what we have for next year. What will it take next season to retain Porter at OU? It would be nice if we could avoid the snark and name calling. I’m curious what everyone’s expectations are.

I think it's pretty obvious that OU MUST make the Dance next season for Coach Moser to get another year. Don't get too down on the new AD for not firing him. When Joe C became the AD, he kept John Blake for a third season. Granted, he did not become AD until April of 1998, but a lot of fans were upset when he immediately announced that there would be no head coaching change for the football program. It was a good strategic move for him to bide time to figure out who he wanted to lead the program in the future. Even in hindsight, it was a good plan. The alternative was to quickly fire Blake and hurriedly try to hire a new coach without a careful plan. Had he gone that route, there was a good chance he would have hired the wrong guy. If Moser doesn't produce, I believe Denny will be far more prepared to replace him with the right guy in 2027 than he would have in 2026.

All he has to do is make the tournament. Win or lose, that is “improvement” and then make it and lose every year for three years, then win one game, then lose again, then almost win. He could be 1-7 in tourney games before they make a change. If JoeC is the guide .. just making the tourney is enough in perpetuity.
Getting to the tourney better not be enough for him, especially now that they're watering it down so much. Well above .500 conference record and at least second weekend, or bye bye. But really it's more how they play, isn't it? No more schizophrenic, inconsistent, no identity, lackadaisical coaching and play regardless of results. Come to think of it, with his body of work and how ridiculous it is that he's still here, has to be Elite 8 at least. If he has anything more than a 4 game losing streak in conference again, can him in-season, get an interim, and get to work on securing the guy who's going to save this now s show we all love called OU basketball.

We could have the exact same season that moser has always had and, with expansion, we will get into the tourney. That’s not enough anymore.

No, but I think the AD will not care that we think a participation trophy isn’t enough. I think he needs improvement every year until we trust him again. Regress and we go shopping, someone great pops up and we go shopping .. unless he figures it out and cosplays Mark Few or Sampson.
I think the X factor is attendance and excitement around the program. We’re seeing, what I would assume, is record low attendance at the LNC. More mediocre 20 win seasons will not help at all. The new stadium will help for one month until fans realize it’s the same lame product we’ve been seeing for the last five years.
unfortunately i think my expectations for him to remain are much higher than denny's.
