Shaka Smart, VCU (extreme long shot, but can't officially be eliminated)
Buzz Williams, Marquette (see Shaka)

Then there is of course, the great unknown. That is honestly probably where the hire comes from. Based on this field of candidates, I would rank my top 5 this way (I am not considering Shaka or Buzz as I don't think they're viable):

1)Kruger
2)Stallings
3)Marshall
4)Bone
5)Boyle
 
Please tell me Geno being on there is in the same vein as me starting a thread about Eustachy. I need reassurance for my heart's sake.
 
What say we take the winner of Marshall v Boyle if Boyle gets to the final. Otherwise take Marshall.
 
I don't see how you couldn't throw Geno on the list at this point. We all know that he was at least contacted by OU last time around.

Ugh haha. You're one of the better posters on the board, which is why you saying that is so scary.
 
Anyone with half a brain knows it is either Marshall or Boyle!!!Now I am so excited I am renuing my season tickets right now!!!
 
outside of buzz williams, with whats left i would not be upset with kruger or stallings... if we hire anyone else on that list, i question why we fired capel to begin with....
 
Our next coach needs to be on that list or he needs to be announced tomorrow.

It's understandable if he is in the bag but still coaching. It would also be good if the guy isn't on the list, announcing the hire news soon to get plenty of exposure during this weekend, while giving our new coach as much time as possible to get staff and set up for late recruiting . What I don't find acceptable is not having a guy in the bag right now.
 
gottlieb is saying he has a source and the guy we are targeting is not coaching in a tourney now...
 
Update. Buzz officially eliminated. Kruger eliminated based on reports from local Vegas media.

Gregg Marshall, Wichita State (could be a Mizzou target now, coule be a NCSU target as well)
Tad Boyle, Colorado (Gottlieb says he wouldn't leave, but I won't eliminate him based on just that)
Kevin Stallings, Vanderbilt (nothing to indicate if he's a serious candidate either way)

stallings or jacobson... marshall hasn't been to the ncaa's from the missouri valley... i think thats a big deal...
 
If we are targeting someone who is not in a tourney right now then he should have been hired yesterday!!!!!!This AD is screwing up!!!!!!

Damn that is actually a name I had completely forgotten about. I know that OU "contacted" him. How exactly that contact went or what the purpose was I do not know. It would be an odd hire as he has been the head coach at Belmont since 1986. Still yet, I am adding him to my list.
