Why are coaches allowed to hire relatives

I have been an outspoken critic of this, and it's flat out ridiculous that Joe C allows this. (although it's not just him, it's a widespread problem in the industry).


I don't know if Kevin Kruger is a good coach or not. It's incredibly tough for the ffans to evaluate a basketball assistant coach. What I do know, is that even if he's terrible, he's not going anywhere because he's the coaches son. Which has always been the fundamental problem with nepotism.
 
Bob Stoops hired his brother Mikey,Gasso has her son on staff(but that team kicks A##,Sherri has her son on staff,& Kruger his son.I have never been a big fan of hiring family,most of the time it doesn't work out.
 
Ya if we had a different assistant coach wed be 20-4 lol gmafb
 
Once again if you think Kevin Kruger is the issue. you dont know basketball or this team.
 
I am not saying Kevin Kruger is the issue. I just think it invites criticism when coaches do this and they have a bad season.

There a lots of things wrong but correctable this year if someone will.

1. Leadership/togetherness
2. Toughness
3. Freshmen/soph slump
4. Effort

Points 1&2. Now to expand. There has been a lot of jealousy of the pups on this team. Not enough mature upperclassmen with a set of balls to keep others in check I won’t name names.

3. Manek is clearly tired. I wrote while back about physicalness being the hardest part of this for the adjustment. You think TY just forgot how to shoot? It’s freaking hard to substain what he did early and now getting doubled EVERY single trip down the floor.

4. This is a double edge sword. I think the def has gotten tremendously worse. A. Because the offense isn’t there, now I know they say offense comes and goes but def can always be there. I think that’s easier said than done B. Offense isn’t there right now. If it comes back I think the def will as well.



LASTLY- Blame goes to Lon of course. He’s the head coach but I will bet my extremely small pay check (teacher pay) Lon and every coach in America would take a 1 and done or 4 year Trae Young every single year. Lon would do it again
Assistant coaches matter but if you think this is on Les hill and Henson being gone, you’re clueless. I repeat CLUELESS.

Coach, we haven't always seen eye to eye on things, but I do respect your opinion and insight into what is going on with this team. Now I expect you to go in there and chew some ass to make this right:D

You are really quick to tell everyone that don't know basketball. But I have yet to hear you state what the problem is...b/c there obviously is one.

But I'm pretty sure you have called everybody idiots that think TY, Lon, the assistants, are a problem.

So great Coach, tell us, what is the problem?

I just saw your post above...

So pretty much, you agree with everyone that you call an idiot. B/c you just put the blame on every player and the coaches...kind of like everyone has been saying on here

Obviously, there is a problem going on, to call for Lon's job, you'd have to be an idiot. to call TY the head coach, you're an idiot. To say you wouldn't recruit this kid again, you're an idiot. to think he forgot how to coach, youre an idiot.

Im doing none of those things.

I dont know why they arent responding, I dont know why TY and Manek are struggling, I know why Kam sucked for 3 months, its nothing this staff didnt try to fix.

My perspective as to why I started shifting from the players to Lon was the lack of adjusting that had seemed to not be happening. Then Monday we decide to finally shake things up in Lawrence. Holy smokes that is entirely the wrong time to do it and it was disastrous. I always go back to Kelvin as my benchmark, but when his teams struggled with certain aspects. Within a game or 2, you could see that they had practiced or altered things to address that.

The effort is 100% on the players. As much as I think Trae doesn't play winning basketball, there has to be some bad attitudes on this team just like last year. Trae isn't the problem there.
