#16 OU vs Vanderbilt 6pm 2/20

thoughts??

I think we can win, and probably must win to maintain our #4 seeding, but sometimes our TOs make games much closer than they should, AND our defense struggles against athletic guards that can shoot, and Vandy has one in freshman Blakes. Fingers crossed!

How are we going to defend Blakes who scored 54 last game for Vandy? Who would be our best defender?

Think we can win but we’ve had some rainy bone headed TO’s already. Good start though

A win.. that’s good. Another 22 TO’s… again, that won’t cut it against the top of the league.. but hey, we won. 👍🏻

101-81 win. Huge 3rd quarter outscoring them by 17 to put the game away. Vandy lacks a true post and tried to get around that by pressure and getting steals…but when they were unable to stop us with pressure Beers was dominating inside she had a 30 point 14 rebounds game on 11-13 shooting. Also the 3rd quarter run was sparked by Zya..during a key few possessions run of the big 3rd quarter she scored 8 points and had an excellent assist to Beers. Zya scored 16 and was 3-3 from 3tonight. Verhulst and Skylar were solid all game and had 16 and 13 respectively. Other key stat was we had the best of the boards 54-29.

Now 2 road games vs Arkansas and Florida over the next week.

I would love it if they would pass a mic around to the people asking questions. I can ususally deduce what the question was by the answers but it would be great if we could hear the questions.

I have to wonder, does Jennie just not value ballhandling or ball security (in terms of not making risky passes)? She has given the same coach-speak answer for weeks about the fact OU has so many TOs. It's getting ridiculous, and the definition of insanity applies.

I'm so tired of coming here to find a discussion about the game and only finding gripes about turnovers. Yes, there's a lot of them. Yes, too many are unforced. But we just soundly beat a very good Vanderbilt team -- a team who is in the top 15 nationally in steals per game and turnover margin. It is their specialty to be pests and jump into passing lanes and pressure ball handlers and force turnovers. If you watched the game last night, you'd have noticed that our post entry passes were drastically improved from even a week ago. Yes, there were still some bad decisions there, but our improved accuracy resulted in actually getting Beers an adequate amount of touches and having a career night in points. Yes, Zya had 5 turnovers and we can all agree that is too many for a PG, but holy smokes she is really figuring it out! She is such a vital spark plug to this team and her (along with Lexy) finally shut down Blakes when they got into the game together in the 3rd quarter. Zya did more than enough positive things within the system for Jennie to forgive the turnovers and keep her on the floor. Meanwhile, Jennie immediately sent Tot to the bench after a stupid turnover not once but twice. Jennie has shown, time and time again, that she will forgive turnovers within the system (i.e. smart reads to players who are moving without the ball) when the offense is flowing... and it was. We scored over 100 points against an NCAA tournament team.

That third quarter, especially, gave me a great amount of hope for this team, but if you only want to look at turnovers and assume Jennie is doing nothing to try to win, then idk what to tell you.

Thanks!

Yes, i noticed the Tot turnover and immediate benching. I think JB has finally realized she can be a complete liability for us in a league that is unforgiving. If you're undersized that's fine, but make up for it and Tot has been a bit lazy about making crisp passes and also defensive intensity, IMO. I'm not saying she hasn't been good for us for years, but I just think we finally have a couple better options and JB's ignoring the fear of hurting feelings and instead going with what's going to get us the win, but maybe it's just me. Last night was the best we've looked in a very long time, and the turnovers didn't seem that bad as they were spread out for the most part. I'm really liking the energy Zya brings and she can be at times almost instant offense. I'm very much looking forward to seeing her next season with a year of experience under her belt, and I'd be shocked if she wasn't our PG next season. She SHOULD make the SEC all-freshman team, but it's a tough league, so we will see.
