2016 elite 100 rankings

When I have watched the players in different situations, I tend to have my own opinions as to whether they will be successful at the D-1 level and why. There are players who are ranked highly that many of you are desperate to get that I don't think will be at all effective in Big Twelve play. They might be OK at Tulsa. I have noticed that both Prospect Nation and ESPN seem to drop the rankings of OU commits which is interesting.

I watched several of the AAU games posted here, and I found some of the evaluations remarkable considering what I saw. I didn't see a guard from Texas in AAU that was competitive with the guards from other areas. The team out of Chicago destroyed CyFairs guards. Dungee did OK. The others were a disaster. I wonder why the Texas guards are rated above players who simply took them completely apart. Had the same impression when I saw Moncrief a couple of years ago. Best guard on the floor.

I think there is, at most, some idea that the kid has some talent if they are listed at all. I don't buy into their rankings at all.

I wonder how good Dangerfield is... Normally small guards don't have a lot of success I'm starting to think she's ranked so high because shes a Uconn commit.

Wilson is where she should be.

Ramirez is that good.

Nancy will need to improve in strength and aggressiveness. If so, I like her future. I hope Sherri uses her close to the basket on both ends of the court. We should be able to throw lobs to her all night long.

I don't see how anyone would think Cox and Holmes don't belong in the top 3.

I think ProspectsNation does a good job overall. But, if you compare all of the recruiting services, I generally think Fullcourt may be the best.

Well, I will make my own judgements.

I look at this a bit differently. I am curious to know what a particular player would contribute to OU. If you really wanted an impact player, someone who could take OU into the top five, would it be the same person that Geno would want. Geno already has a lot. A really good player might help Geno stay where he is because he can surround them with great players. The same player might make OU a little better, but not a top five team.

If I had to find a prospect to get OU into the top five, I would be looking for:
1. A top rebounder, interior defender
2. A versatile scorer, someone who can shoot really well from anywhere and who can create their own shot.

We can't be sure about how good Mulkey will be until she gets here, and we see her in games against D-1 talent. Having seen her against the best that Texas has to offer, she can be the interior defender, maybe even more effective than Courtney. It is difficult to shoot over 6-9 or 6-10. She can be a difference maker, one that can make OU into a top five team, as long as we have some help for her.

I am hoping that Maddie and Ana become that versatile scorer. They both have a shot. They have something that the other contenders don't have, height. Llanusa can do pretty much whatever she wants with the ball. Maddie may be an explosion this year.

I see other prospect that could make OU better. But, there isn't anyone else that I have seen that can take OU's present team and make them into a top five threat. We need something that other teams don't have.

Of all of the players still available in 2016 (excluding Cox), my first pick is Joyner Holmes. My second pick is Sabrina Ionescu. My third pick is Amber Ramirez as I believe she is good enough that she would start over Gabbi and I doubt we can sign Johnson in 2017 so we need a great PG. Since I doubt we can sign Holmes, Ionescu, or Ramirez, I would like to see the coaches go after Wilson like their hair is on fire.

I think it's safe to say We are out of the running for Wilson. I highly doubt we sign any of those players listed above except I still think We have a chance of signing Johnson in 2017 seeing how her and Llanusa are close. I could picture Sherri Doing a 1-2 punch with Ortiz and Johnson. I think we are done with 2016 recruiting unless something just pops up we don't know about. 2017 and 2018 will be crucial as we look to rebuild.

Other than Ionescu about whom I know nothing, I think you are totally and absolutely wrong on every statement in this post. I just won't elaborate until after the signing date.

+1. I see evidence of this all the time. Commit to UConn and the rankings almost always go up. I wish I had before and after data to analyze. That would be a simple means regression.

Go ahead and elaborate, there is no way we sign the likes of Holmes, Ionescue, Ramirez, etc. 2016 recruiting is a wrap IMO. Syb, you seem to always criticize another persons posts and opinions except your own.
The most Negative poster on this board in my opinion.
If it's not a commitment or if their not interested in OU, every information given about a prospect then your not interested or you just have everything negative to say. Try doing your homework on recruits and you'll be amazed that something positive actually comes out of your negative mind.

I agree with you. I think we may have about a 5% chance of signing Wilson but I would still love to have her. I believe she would help us tremendously, maybe on the defensive end more than the offensive end. She and Llanusa would be great together. IF we could somehow sign Johnson (although I don't feel good about her becoming a Sooner), that would be a great trifecta.

+1 with the number of schools recruiting Johnson and Wilson it will be hard to make them Sooners but I will still keep the faith.

After watching both of them this year I think Wilson is much better than Dungee. Dungee doesn't have a position and can not create her own shot. Not much of a team player or a hustler. Calip on her high school team is a better player, she is probably going to Arkansas, Calip that is.

Would Calip be the Daughter of Sapulpa coach Darlene Calip? If so, I know exactly who your talking about, The girl is very athletic with a high basketball IQ. Very underrated in terms of recruiting wise. I'm glad she is getting some looks.

Yes, she is the daughter of Coach Calip. She was the best player on the court the two games I watched her play.

And, you will continue to find that I will be very negative to those who continue to post things like we see on this thread:
---one of you believes that Amber Ramirez would start over Gabbi who just happens to be on the national team right now while Ramirez is where? What a negative statement towards an OU starter, someone who has given us a year already.
---another believes that Wilson is better than Dungee which is concurred by two others. Of course, Dungee has spent a summer on the U-16 team while Wilson has done exactly what?

Again, this constant negativity towards OU players and commits and lament that we aren't signing some kid that some guru thinks is a hot shot will be met with continued negativity.

As I stated, I will make my opinions on each known after the letters-of-intent are signed. I would prefer not to criticize someone that Sherri might actually want.

If you feel that way then direct it to that person like I am directing this to you. Do not bash everyone because they give their opinions on certain players. They give their opinions just as you give yours.

Who cares who is better than who. That is Their opinion! Do I think Wilson is better than Dungee? Yes I do. That does not mean I am taking anything away from Dungee, she is still a great player.

Don't compare players based on accolades. Who Cares If someone made the USA team or whatever! That does not determine how good you are for the 1,000th time! How do you know if Wilson doesn't even want to be apart of USA basketball? Not everyone attends those tryouts. Some like to let their game speak for itself which Wilson is clearly doing and hasn't even stepped foot in the USA gym.

Everyone has their own opinions about players, all this hype about players and rankings and USA accolades is pure non-sense. I could name a handful of Oklahoma players and Non Oklahoma players that are far much better than people listed on rankings and such.

Don't compare a player based on accolades and their hype. I bet if Brice Calip was "Ranked" This board would be all over her. Pathetic. I don't buy into the ranking and accolade crap. I know good talent when I see it.

It's just a shame that we tend to loose all this talent right in the state because we are to busy chasing rankings and accolades. If Calip is really a Arkansas lean then it is still pitiful that we loose yet another gem to an out of state school.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. OU is not every Oklahoma girls Dream School! You still have to Recruit! them just as if they were any other out of state recruit! Give them a reason to come here!!

We tend to Use our Oklahoma players as "Last resorts". If we loose out On a "Top" recruit THEN we turn to the Oklahoma kids like "Hey I've got a schlorship for you ". I wouldn't take that either! There is no genuine sincerity With Coach Coale and Oklahoma Recruiting unless it is their dream school and I will continue to stick by my word.

I'm not Bashing OU or Coach Coale in any way, I am just stating facts and my opinion.
This program Is a sleeping giant if we could just get all the right pieces. Right Now I would say it's a pretty fair foundation for the future but it still needs to be taken up a notch to be considered "Elite" and it starts with Recruiting!

I am sure OU would recruit some of these players. Coale is in a numbers crunch until 2017.

You're right in that we only have one ship available for 2016. I would recruit 2 or 3 of the best ones and take whichever one committed first. If we could sign Wilson, I think that would help with Johnson.
