2017 Chris Giles PG walk on

Wow. Is he at OU? Why in the world did he walk on with all those high major offers?

That is interesting.

On Billy Tubbs last OU team (1993-94), there was a Chris Giles (G; 6-4; Jr.) on the roster that redshirted. He then earned a letter as a senior on Kelvin Sampson's first OU team in 1994-95. Chris Giles played limited minutes on that 1994-95 team as he averaged less than 1 point per game.

He was only listed on the OU roster those two seasons.

Chris Giles (G; 6-4; 177)
1993-94 .. Junior (redshirted)
1994-95 ... Senior (earned letter)

Very interesting. His father played at OU.

Wow! Welcome Chris. The words that excite me in that article are; straight As, Honor Society, and defense. This sounds like a young man and not some high school kid. Good get.

wow that could be a great add ... I would think he RS's and he might be able to play down the road

Or, he might be able to play this season as a backup to TY. At 6' 3" 193, he may feel he can beat a smaller Jordan Shepherd for playing time, or possibly move him to a backup role at the two.

Even if you're right that Giles is part of a long range plan, he's one heck of a get as a walk on.

Three years ago he was a top 50 player. Wonder what happened?

They evaluated a high school freshman who maybe didn't live up to the potential THE NERDS WITH COMPUTERS thought he had. Just my opinion, but I hate evaluating high schoolers before their junior year.

Exactly.. Hey, great add though. I just can't wrap my mind around going from TOSU offer to walking on. I wonder if there may have been a promise of a scholarship down the line? Where does he fit in with Shepherd coming on? Shepherd to the 2?

Giles is a "preferred walk on," meaning he has the opportunity to earn a scholarship if everything goes as planned. I doubt if a promise was made by anyone, but since he was one of OU's top recruits at one time, I think his chances of earning a ship at some future date are better than most walk ons we see on our roster.

He is a great pickup. He does not look 6'3" but does look solidly built. Good skills / good athlete, but appears to have average quickness. He and J Shepard will battle for minutes. He could be better than Jordan on D.

Says something about how much respect Lon and the program are getting within the basketball community.
