2026 Transfer portal

Just read an article from another site, it stated we are going to hear pretty soon that L Smith is signing with Oklahoma. Said the staff may also try to find another point guard in the portal.

I liked the roster anyway, but I would think with Smith (if true) and Momodu, we should be improved next year for sure. Totally agree we need to find a good experienced point guard if possible. Would let us play Chavez off the ball some and give us another ball handler.

Everything matters and contributes to success or failure, but IMO the most important area we need to improve in is our 3 point shooting.
What site? I can't find anything about this.

We are getting stronger in the middle with Stewart, Bell and now Momodu. All are mobile and have good scoring ability. Agree that Chavez would be better off point. Also agree that we need better 3 point shooting. I think some of that was shot selection. I liked Verhulst overall game but she thrw up 3 pointers like she thought she was Caitlyn Clark. Think both Bell and Momodu will be better inside defenders than Beers, who I loved.

Yes as much as I loved Verhultz, she was so hot/and (mostly) cold on the 3s. Some were 6 feet behind the line or more

On the 3 point shooting issue, I think it is a combination of a lot of factors. Shot selection, personnel decisions, kids staying within their well established skill set relating to shooting, and perhaps other issues. You can "run and gun" without giving every player on the team an equal right to shoot any shot they want to shoot regardless of their shooting percentage on that shot. The fact that a player can hit a 3, doesn't mean she should be shooting them if her game shooting percentage from the 3 point line is poor. No time left and they have the ball, sure, fire it up as an alternative to a turnover due to shot clock violation. Some girls can shoot an adequate percentage when squared up from the 3 point line, but have a terrible percentage on 3s when on the move. Some are good from the line, but not from even a few feet further out. A coach has an entire off season to gain an understanding of what each players skill set is related to shooting and then, until and unless they plainly demonstrate improvement, limit them to shots they have proven to make a good percentage of. Giving everyone the right to play like they are at the YMCA and use games that count to work on their shooting will cost you against good teams.

Most NBA teams use what I think they call the Boston Celtic drill when evaluating their players and potential players. 100 shots from the different points around the 3 point line in rapid succession, all in a catch and shoot format. Then, they just total up the makes. Your not being guarded, and so if you can't hit a certain number (I think 80 or more if I remember right), you aren't a 3 point shooter under normal game conditions. If you do the drill enough to prove being able to hit the 3 from a given spot, then you only are allowed to shoot the 3 from that spot. If you want greater freedom to expand your right to shoot, you earn it in the drill in practice and not in the game.

Heard Billy Tubbs discuss this issue many times. Get your players to buy in to being really good at doing what they do really well. Work tirelessly on the shots you are going to be shooting in the games. Waymon used to spend his entire pregame warmup shooting a gillion little turnarounds and then he wore you out with it during the games. Could do them blindfolded I bet.

When Nagy was hired, I read an article that said the General Manager would communicate to recruits/portal players about NIL. If what Nagy can offer is agreeable to the player, official visits will be set up. This will keep the coach from wasting their time on a player that wants way more than what we are willing to pay. I assume it would work the same way with basketball.

Good stuff. You want the green light, prove it. All of them need to be shooting in their sleep.
