#9 OU vs #26 NC State 6pm 12/3

Watching SEC network basketball wrapup this morning and they recapped all the SEC-ACC matchups EXCEPT no mention of the OU win
over NC State.

It’s the typical offense… shoot enough shots ya might win some games, definitely against crappy teams. Won’t work against quality opponents.

This is who Jenny is… and will always be.
Its a read and react offense in lieu of running just sets like you enjoy. They are playing with a freshman guard in what her 7th game? This NC State team isn't a crappy team. They have 4 really good players and will do well in the ACC this season. But go ahead, educate us on how your sisters, cousins nephew was a coach and won a middle school championship running sets and scoring 12 points per game.

8 other coaches have made it to 300 wins in the SEC...Jennie made it faster than all other SEC coaches besides Kim Mulkey and Kenny Brooks. So continue letting us know how you would be better and don't enjoy the fact that OU has finished the season in the top 25 every year she has been here.

Final Ranking in the AP Poll

2024 - 11th
2023 - 21st
2022 - 16th
2021 - 22nd

When was the last time OU finished the seasoned ranked better than 22nd in the AP? 2010? Honestly, I can't believe its been that long.
  • All that being said, were there bad shots put up? Yes. (especially by our Fresh/Soph guards).
  • Were there breakdowns on the defensive end? Yes. But when they needed stops in the end they found a way
  • Did we box out enough? No.
Is this roster full of Top 20 kids like Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCONN, LSU, USC, UCLA & Duke? No. If we beat any of those teams it won't be because we are more talented, it will be because we run a system that is really hard to defend when it is run well.

Add in the little things on defense and they’ll be very hard to beat. The offense didn’t bother me. Watching the ball instead of rebounding, not boxing or closing out, and wide open perimeter shots do. We fix that And good luck to other teams!

Also, go through last years roster and see how many years of D1 experience we lost. Not only do we have two new starters, one of whom is a true freshman, but we are bringing freshmen and sophomores off the bench. Last year we brought girls with much more experience off the bench.

Brooklyn Stewart… Can we please give her some spotlight?? That girl is going to be GOOD for us, and she is only getting better the more games she plays.
I thought she did phenomenal tonight against NC State on both sides of the ball. She held her own against both Tilda Trygger and Khamil Pierre. And Ima bring this up again, she was once again guarding a small guard and I guess the guard thought she was gonna blow by Brooklyn and Brooklyn blocked her shot trying to get to the rim.

i just want to say that i am all in on her. i don’t really follow recruiting in any sport, so the first time i saw her in person, i said “who is that??” and then last night she showed the flashes that confirm to me that she is going to be special. really looking forward to watching her game expand.

I think one of the things that sets us apart from the best teams in the country like connecticut, texas, LSU and South Carolina is the consistency on defense. Our girls just want to outshoot opponents and outscore them and win that way but when they are off and not hitting shots it's kind of hard to win games. Especially against teams that can keep up with you offensively even when you are on. We've got to find a way to be more aggressive on defense without fouling. I don't know that we have the depth this year to do that though. Our benches so young and inexperienced and doesn't really contribute a whole lot, yet. I hope that changes but again I think back to the transfer portal and how bringing in a veteran guard and productive forward would have made a huge difference while the freshman acclimated.

lol… never said I just love sets, but take it for what ya want.

I don’t mind running, need some sets as well though.

You have to have it as an option. Especially against teams like Texas.
Texas is exactly the team that you don't run sets against since they are so well prepared on defense. Which is why we beat them for a conference championship 2 yrs ago with a roster that had far less talent they they did.

To everyone's point on this board, it is hard to watch so many bad shots go up and the attempted layups when they either don't have the numbers or position to make it. Ugh, gotta clean those up. Its going to be tough to rely on freshman, but this is where we are at. OK state should teach us a lot.

Let's not forget, no diss to our girls but Rori Harmon was out that year with a ACL, a huge part of why we were able to beat them.

We may not want to run sets against Texas, but they’re going to force the issue this year. Need to have some in our back pocket or start cutting again, because we’re not doing that nearly as much.

Lets not forget that this was our starting 5 that year:

Naveah Tot
Skylar Vann
Sahara Williams
Payton Verhulst
Lexy Keys

vs.

Aaliyah Chavez
Raegan Beers
Sahara Williams
Payton Verhulst
Zya Vann

I do think Rori is playing much better this year. No brace and it takes so long to recover from an ACL. Also, we play at the Moody this year. Man they have a helluva squad.
