If all the higher seeds win tonight, the ACC will have all elite 8 spots on the right side of the bracket.

I guess they proved to be the toughest conference this year.

Let's wait until tonight's over to crown them. They could just as easily get 0 teams in the elite eight.

If ISU wins at worst the Big 12 will be tied for most teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament. And I think 2 ACC teams win. Gonzaga will beat Syracuse. I bet one of the other 3 loses.

Was a pretty big 'if' ISU just doesn't defend well enough and Virginia's size ain't letting them do much.

I understand. Honestly, I've been disappointed with their play tonight. Virginia is just a better team.

It's a battle against me? They got 6 teams into the sweet 16. Stop being a homer and just face the facts.

Tourney success doesn't always equal the best teams or stronger teams winning. Syracuse beat a 7, 15, & an 11 to get to the elite 8... It's about draws sometimes... The ACC is strong, but to say just because they've had success in the tourney does not mean they are the best conference.

ACC has 14 teams half of switch are basketball schools. They caught some breaks and have had a good showing. Give them some do nothing more. They aren't light years better than everyone else this year tho.

And the Big 12 lost in the opening round to a 14, a 12, an 11, and a 9 seed.

I have no qualms with the Big XII being the second best basketball conference. When Wayman Tisdale chose to play at OU, these conferences were all better pretty much annually - ACC, SEC, PAC-10, Big 10, Big East, and even the Metro (which featured Louisville and Memphis State). The Big 8 was on par with the Southwest Conference competing to be the 7th best basketball conference. Thanks primarily to Wayman Tisdale and Danny Manning, this conference is now elite. However, the ACC proves it is better year in and year out. Now that they have Syracuse and Louisville, I can't see how an argument is made against them with bluebloods like Duke and North Carolina.

too much is made of this conference that conference....the ACC has always been a very strong basketball conference....and while i don't love any of those teams...i'm glad to see the ACC sort of "come back" from the conference re-alignments based entirely on football TV revenue.

that said, 3 teams in the Sweet 16 from a 10 team league is not that big % difference from 4 in a 15 team league. but, tell ESPN that. like a few years ago the Nation's Leader routinely wet themselves about how many teams the Big East was sending to the Big Dance. 10! a sixteen team Big East. exactly the same % as when the Big 8 was sending 5 a few years in the late 80's. think about how tough a league is when you are playing home-home's with 5 of 8 teams are NCAA tournament teams?

I don't look at the conference standings in the tournament as having much meaning. It's always about individual match-ups.

There is no doubt the Big 12 was disappointing, two teams in the Elite 8 are about right for the league but WV and BU playing so poorly was disappointing.

Notre Dame and Syracuse are in the Elite 8 and have not beaten a team higher than a 7 seed.

UNC and UVA are legit. The other two, more lucky than good at this point.

That's why this tournament is so much fun. The season long tendencies go by the way side.

I disagree with Notre dame. I had them in my elite 8 bracket. They have one of the best point guards in the country.

That's the beauty of the tournament. It gives us the truth, unlike football where they build up conferences and you never truly know what conference was the best.

You can throw seeds out the window now because they may have not beaten a team higher than a 7 seed but those teams that are ranked higher lost.

Rankings are based on people's perception but elite eight teams are based on results.

I pretty much agree with this.

Some people will point to the upsets and say "such and such clearly wasn't better than that team they beat, it was just lucky, or a good matchup."

I'm not saying a team like SFA, or Yale, or whomever could compete night in and night out over the course of 3 months or so with Big 12 or ACC teams. But I will tell you that they can compete for one night with them. And that is what this tournament is built for. Who can you beat with short prep time, over the course of 2, 3 or however many games.

Football is kind of the same way. It's why a Boise State could beat OU in a bowl game, but would have lost 3-4 games had they played in the Big 12 that season.
