She played her freshman year at OU before being dismissed from the team...she's now playing at TCU

This is from the Daily Oklahoman (December 9, 2009):

NORMAN. University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale has dismissed freshman guard Alexann Yancey from the team for violation of team rules. OU's sports information office said Coale would not comment on why Yancey was dismissed.

Yancey, a 5-foot-8 guard from Plano West, wasn't in OU's rotation. Yancey appeared in four games, scoring three points with seven assists and five rebounds.

Senior guard Lauren Willis also was suspended for one game but returned for the Sooners' 84-57 win over Stephen F. Austin Wednesday night. Willis played 17 minutes, scoring two points.

What was the deal with Yancey's recruiting...were her parents donors to the program or do I have her mixed up with someone else?

I believe they were or are and if I am not mistaken they both graduated from OU.

I think Yancey was originally going to walk on at OU. Her parents are reportedly big money donors to OU and both are reportedly OU graduates. She ended up with a scholarship on the team. I always surmised Coale was forced to put her on scholarship by higher ups. No proof, only my opinion. If so, this might have been a reason she was dismissed so quickly. If true, I am sure Coale resented being told to take her, as I would have myself. I do not know what she and Willis did to get in trouble.

I heard (not sure if true) Willis was late for or missed practice. I heard Yancey's problem was partying.

My opinion is that Sherri wouldn't be that petty. My guess is she was warned for violating team rules once or twice and when she didn't listen, she was dismissed. I think (hope) Sherri would do that to anyone who signed up to play for her. What team rules she broke is immaterial. I'm rather proud of the fact that even 4 years later; especially in this day and age of instant everything; no one outside knows the full reason.
