Some Vegas camp info on him

2014 P 6’10″ Jamuni McNeace (Allen/Allen, TX) has now moved into the high major category. He’s got a dozen mid major offers, and yesterday the PAC-12′s Utah Utes offered, with Colorado on the verge of doing so. As mentioned a couple of days ago, there’s no hotter name on the circuit now than McNeace who played no basketball prior to the high school level.

McNease is friends/teammates with OU football verbal Tay Evans whose dad is OU hoops player Bobby Joe Evans.

If you watch the video on this page, he is number 8 in green.

Good find, atlantasooner! You've been on a roll lately.

McNeace clearly has a huge upside for a kid who is relatively new to the game. I was surprised that he won the camp's dunk contest toward the end of the video. That's an honor usually reserved for smaller guys with great hops.

High energy player, length, an athletic garbage man, finds his own numbers.

Not to be negative, but I wonder if this means we're striking out on all the other C/PFs we've offered.

stikboy,
it's a legit question.
Could also be Lon really wants two HS bigs in this class and is making sure
he's not playing catchup offer wise.

Hopefully it is Lon being proactive. I like the direction this team is headed. If we can start recruiting with a plan in mind as opposed to just trying to fill gaps at the last second, we may see something really special develop.

Recruiting is always an interesting numbers game. In football, OU might have spots for two defensive ends in a recruiting class, yet they will offer scholarships to six high school defensive ends and stay in contact with another 4 or 5, waiting to see if a player develops into a better prospect as a senior. Then during the course of recruiting, they become aware of previously unknown prospects that the coaches really like.

Obviously, the numbers are more limited in basketball recruiting. More importantly, OU basketball has less power to “pick and choose” recruits compared to the OU football program. The opposite is true at Kansas. Just ask Charlie Weis how hard it is to get his top recruiting targets onto the KU football roster.

The good news is that Lon has 4 scholarships to work with in the 2014 class. This gives him some flexibility.

Many of these 6’9” and 6’10” basketball recruits are new names to me. The timing of when we fans become aware of offers does not necessarily indicate which players are the most highly sought after by our coaches. Just because I hear OU has offered prospect “A” on August 15th, does not mean that “A” is more sought after compared to prospect “B” that I hear about on September 20th.

I agree that it appears that Lon and his coaches are being proactive, if that is the right word. OU needs some high school post players on the roster. It is a poor strategy to put all your recruiting eggs in one basket.

Well the top bigs are going to be split among the best traditional programs unless OU gets lucky and there's an in state kid who wants to go to OU.

But Lon if he can sign some of these lesser known bigs who have length and athleticism then OU might get 4 years out of them. Or even better, after 2 or 3 years they have excelled to the point of being a high draft pick which will only help the program.
