Any truth to the Maui rumor?

Oh I'm not saying I think we should do it, I was just wondering because I thought I remembered us doing it one year under Kelvin. Going into conference play 12-1 or whatever doesn't do you a whole lot of good when you've got 12 wins against Sam Sausage State.

Last year we lost to teams that were not that good. VCU, San Diego, Houston out of conference. Nebraska, Colorado, Texas Tech(twice) in conference. If we aren't that good next year we'll do the same thing no matter how tough or easy our schedule is. If we are good we'll win those games.

Good grief! I can't believe that OU would duck games out of fear of losing and that fans would support that!

If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best. Next year's team will not have the talent to be the best; it will lose some games. But, come on...what's the point of playing Patsie U?

Players don't come to OU to get relagated to tier-2, 3, or 4 status. We've got to get on national TV as much as possible; even if that means we lose. OU has to show future recruits that if they come here, they will play in the big games, the games that are on TV; that they'll play the best competition and show NBA scouts what they can do at the highest level.

And if OU ever wants to get back to winning NCAA Tourney games, they have to schedule some tough teams out of conference, just to show the players what's beyond the Big 12 confines.

Play a tough schedule with a real team (not last year's group of individuals--or what I'd like to call "misfit toys") and the team will get better...faster.

Didn't we back out of Maui one year when Kelvin was here?

I thought we debunked this a month or so ago...maybe I am wrong.

If we got to Maui, worst case is we finish 1-2. I'll take that because either you lost to a couple of quality teams and beat Chaminade or earned a quality win and lost to two other quality teams. I know this shouldn't be the only reason to go, but someone like Cade Davis deserves his trip to Maui.

I think it would be good for this group to go to Maui. Good things can also bring a group together (not just adversity).

i thought it was eddie sutton and osu who backed out and we replaced them... i could be wrong though... i have been before, but it was just the one time...

That's correct, we are going because OSU backed out. There was talk of us not making the trip but I haven't heard anything in awhile. I am going to the tourney so if they back out someone better let those ticket holders know in advance.

A weak schedule may help this year, but will do nothing for the future.

Most of your players this year won't really be the future IMO. They're stop-gaps and future role players. Clark and Taylor should be more than that, but the focus of this season for OU should be re-establishing the program, and that's not going to happen with a 15 win season. Get to 18-20, even if it's against a bunch of nobodies, and the program looks better to future recruits.

Not unless we are looking at the death penalty right in the face. :(
