"In Norman, they found a half-full Lloyd Noble Center and a student section with dozens of empty seats that had newspapers draped over the backs that the occupants would usually hold up during pregame introductions."

I love OU, but sometimes I'm embarrassed to be a part of this fanbase. This is one of those times. Attendance was a ****ing joke tonight. And don't give me the 6 p.m. start time excuse. I can understand people showing up late, but there were no more than 5,000 people in there at any point in the game. If we had a weeknight football game with a 6 p.m. start, it would still sell out. SMH.

Whether you think it's an excuse or not, if people work in OKC and can't get off early, 6PM games are nearly impossible. It's always been that way.

I feel your pain, but I really don't get the complaining after EVERY game. Do you really think it's going to turn around just like that? When we start winning, it will. Basketball attendance has always been fickle, but the fans do appreciate a winning team. LK will get them there in time.

And I would be totally fine if the crowd filled in to about 7,000 by early in the 2nd half. I understand OKC ---> Norman traffic blows, and most people would have a tough time making it by tipoff. But honestly, I didn't see many people pouring in after the under-16 timeout.

If you work a full day, the last thing in the world you're going to want to do is speed home so you can drive 45 more minutes to show up late to a college hoops game. You're going to go home drink a beer and watch the game on the couch.

There's also a certain number of fans who have season tickets but drive from Tulsa or even further for the weekend home games. Weekday games are nearly impossible for them.

I understand your frustration but 6PM games are a nightmare.

IDK...I'm probably just in a bad mood b/c of the loss. If we had won, I probably wouldn't have posted this. I just wish more people knew about the season ticket transfer tool on SoonerSports. I know I've seen you post threads about it before, which is awesome...but I feel like no one besides the diehards who post here know about it, which is unfortunate.

I can understand why adults who work can't get there but that doesn't explain why the students can't get there.

Night classes.

This is understandable, but there are night classes every day of the week, and there were many less students tonight than at the Baylor game. Also even with night classes & Valentine's Day next week I guarantee we basically sell out the student section against a crappy Texas team.

Night classes.

Most students aren't in night classes. The students don't go because most aren't interested. 80 guys lived in the fraternity house with me, and there were 4 of us that went to the games. Most people didn't even watch the games on tv. Basketball games just don't have the "event" atmosphere that football games, so the casual fans that don't really care won't show up.

At most schools, students only care if the team is good, and the team has to prove it's good before the students start showing up.

I was in my final year of undergrad during Anderson's elite eight run. We won 31 games that year, which tied an MU record. It wasn't until halfway through the Big 12 season when the students figured out we were good. I could generally count on showing up a minute or two before tipoff and having a whole row to myself.

Now we have students camping out for four days for the kansas game (as big as it always is, I've never seen people camp out like that).

I'm sure there are a few schools where this isn't the case. Maybe Indiana or some other basketball crazy school with 50k enrollment. But for most of us, this is reality.

Students don't even last an entire football game any longer. And there were empty seats in the student section for almost every game

Night classes.

I had a night class tonight which is why I didn't go to the game, as did one of my friends who goes to all the games....but I doubt that's the reason why the student section was empty. Most students don't have night classes on Monday nights... I was looking at tweets before my class of OU reporters shocked at the lack of attendance. Was quite disheartening.

Students are the worst front runner fans. Then they grow up to be adults who leave games early.

It's not being front runners for the most part. A bunch of students go to the games despite not caring at all about sports, because it's a big party and the whole town goes out for it. They're going to leave at half time because they genuinely don't care that much. Same goes for if it's bad weather. Just the nature of the beast.

Students don't go to the basketball games because it's not an "event."
Most of them only go to the football games to be seen. Or to plan out where they're going to get drunk later that night.
Or see if they won the little arts and crafts chalk drawing contest and then leave.
