Are we going to be disappointed if it's anyone but Buzz?

To be honest, I wanted BCG, because I know about BCG and I think he would have made us competitive but the more I read and learn about Buzz I would be thrilled with him.

However, I'm thinking the chances are slim he gets named so is that going to leave all of us with a sour taste in our mouths?

I don't see any other realistic choices that I like as well as BCG/Buzz. I just don't.

So yea, I'm probably going to be disappointed.

I think it depends on who is named. I really like Buzz and color me impressed with the way his team plays; knocking off two higher seeds in two games shows he can definitely coach. If we settle for another up and comer then find out that BW was interested but we wouldn't pay the money to get him here, then, yes, I would be disappointed.

Unless Joe C. gets someone that none of us thinks is available. I'm right with you.

If, however, Joe pulls off a shocker and gets a Jamie Dixon or Bo Ryan type hire, then I will get over Buzz/BCG. I just don't think that anyone at that level (outside of Buzz) is realistic. And I am not sure that he is still realistic.

I'd be a little disappointed because I've really warmed up to the thought of Buzz coaching our team.

I think those 2 guys are on the top level of coaches we could get. The next level in my mind are guys like Tad Boyle and Kevin Stallings.

After those 2 the next level is a bunch of unproven mid-major guys like Marshall, Shaka, Jones, etc.

I think if you get to the 3rd level (previous paragraph) you either try to hire Auriemma, Terry Evans, or Bob Hoffman.

JMO.

Yes and No. I think he is a great candidate, however, there are multiple other candidates who could do a great job at OU. There are a number of jobs open and so we are going to have competition for our top candidate(s). I would be very disappointed if we lost him because it was going to cost us more than 1.5 million per year (allegedly his salary last yer) and he had a buyout. Why? Because those things are known now to JC and if he remains interested in him as his top candidate, he should be prepared to deal with those issues with the appropriate level of money.

If he spurs OUr competitive offer then I am much less concerned. Why?? Because I don't worry about loving nothing or nobody that can't or won't love me back. At that point I want the best guy available. That said, I like buzz and think he would be a fantastic catch. I will save my elation for the celebration of his signature on the crimson and cream dotted line....

Buzz would be a huge splash, something Joe C tried to pull when he hired Stephenson for baseball - so there is precedence for him to use that approach.

However he did go more "off-the-radar" on Capel and Stoops - although you could argue Bob was the hottest assisstant football coach around when he came to Norman.

I will be disappointed if we do not offer the job to Buzz. Make him turn it down. He is a hot commodity now and may only get hotter if Marquette beats NC this week. I just feel like with each NCAA tourney win he becomes more expensive and, unfortunately, less obtainable.

The more time I have to think about the opening, the more I think the hot names being tossed around will not, ultimately, be the guy. Buzz, Tad and Kevin Stallings all guys I would love but all guys that will be tough to get.

Kevin - established coach, good conference, paid well - would he come?
Buzz - only chance is the Oklahoma connection - all else is better in Marq.
Tad - has one of his dream jobs now - would he leave?

So, unfortunately, I think we will be down to a lesser candidate - maybe even someone not in Trammel's bracket.

I want to support Terry Evans, but I think the jump to D1 might be too much of a gamble right now. A lot hinges on this hire and I think it will go along way in showing how much OU cares about basketball.

It all depends who we get. If we get Stevens I would be very happy. I liked the way Princeton played but they don't recruit in the Ivy League. Where is the guy who replaced Capel at VCU.

I think Evans needs a big school assistant position before he moves to a job like OU. He has been there quite a while and I think that level is as foreign to major college basketball as the womans game. Particularly in the recruiting game. I know nothing about Jones but he has some of the same problems that Evans has.

Where is Bob Hoffman now? And why would he be a good choice other than the fact that we liked him when at OU.

By the way I don't agree with Tramel that Joe C won't take a chance.

Ideally he will land someone like when he got Kindler to move from Iowa State for our womens gymnastics program. She was obviously talented and OU was a nice step up for her.

Unfortunately in basketball there are a lot more programs looking for a coach than you would ever have in gymnastics.

Joe C will probably hire someone for reasons that we don't even know about.

If its not Buzz but someone who has known value like a Tubby Smith or a Steve Lavin, I would be okay..

If we hire some cheap kid from East Popcorn State I will be a extremely sad panda

Depends on who OU gets.

There are other qualified coaches besides Buzz though. Its not exactly a "Buzz or Bust" scenario, IMO.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't land Buzz becuase of money issues, i.e. us not shelling out the cash to get him.
