OU vs Michigan - Best Game I Ever Saw In Person!

Yea, you could tell he didn’t want to crap on Latin but was just so bummed they were just a free throw away from winning it. If only we had been in the double bonus, maybe he would have been able to split the pair. Self was very smart to use their last timeout before the front end. If he had made it, being out of timeouts would have killed KU’s chances, but he knew the crowd was going to get so loud and wanted Lattin to have to spend almost three minutes thinking about it.
I was watching the game on TV, like most other OU fans. When Lattin got the foul call, he was being congratulated and encouraged by his teammates. I (and I'm sure many others) was able to read his lips when he told them, "I got this!" Somehow, I knew right then and there that he would miss the front end of that one-and-one and we would lose the game. I wish I'd have had a little more faith in Lattin. I still feel bad for him to this day.

Lots of great memories from classic games! I'm curious if anyone on here was at the Final Four in 1988. That win over Arizona was a classic. Two more which come to mind are the 1995 game against Kansas (Ernie Abercrombie for 3...YES!). I know Sooner04 mentioned before he was at that game. Also, was anyone at the game which Billy Tubbs had "The Technical"? That was another classic.

The best OU game I attended prior to last night was the 1984 game at Syracuse, back when I lived in upstate NY. There was only a top-20 poll at the time. We were not ranked, but Wayman Tisdale knocked down 33 and Tim McCalister 26. After beating Syracuse 98-91, we were ranked and never unranked again during the Wayman Tisdale era. I was thinking about that game last night because there were a lot of OU fans at that game sitting behind the OU bench. I went and chatted with some at halftime. My dad was too busy taking photos of the OU cheerleaders since the Orange were crushed in that department :).

One of mine… Hollis hitting FT’s in the tourney against mu… kid had ice in his veins.
I was there for that one.....sitting next to a bunch of KU fans. They didn't like OU, but they hate Mizzou worse (obviously). After Hollis hit those FTs, I turned to them and said something to the effect of enjoy playing against him for the next 3 years.

Yes sir! Present for both of your latter choices.

Sad that your statement is now dead and gone, along with true college sports too

I was at both the Abercrombie game and the Billy Tubbs technical game. What a great time to be an OU basketball fan! I still have that Syracuse game on VCR tape!! Haha, yes let the old guy jokes flow. It was a fantastic game to watch and our coming out party to the nation. My favorite play was the all time greatest Calvin Pierce baseline drive and reverse jam!!!

Would have loved to be there last night!

Best ou game I’ve been to was probably BG vs Steph Curry. That was truly special to watch them go back and forth.
Quick story about that Steph Curry game. It was a fantastic game and I think Steph had 46 points or something like that. My son was a ball boy for that game and Steph was already one of his favorite players. My son asked him for an autograph before the game and Steph said to wait for him outside the locker room after the game and he would sign an autograph. When the game was over my son told me about the conversation and I'm thinking yeah right, he has long since forgotten about that but not wanting to be the one to crush my son's dream I humored him and we waited. Sure enough, after all of the media responsibilities, Steph steps outside the locker room and signs something my son has and then gives him one of his shoes autographed!!! I couldn't believe it and he made a lifelong fan of my son and me as well.

I will have to admit the recent Kamala endorsement sorely tested my appreciation, but let's keep it on basketball!!! 😂 😂😂

I noticed Renee Forney (LONG-time OU BBall secretary) cheering on the team after the game Wednesday night. Made me think: how many people were in the stands for both of our infamous four-point plays (Crocker and Fears)? I'd be stunned if she wasn't there for both. Can't be too many who can make that claim, myself included (I only saw Crocker's).

I was at Tony’s game as well. That was awesome!

What I always remember about Calvin Pierce is that he didn’t care who was between him and the basket. If you were man enough to get in the way of his thunder dunk you would have something to think about the next time. 😀

Unfortunately haven’t attended many games in person… usually the conf tourney here in KC.. but remember most from tv.

In ‘88 I was living in the heart of ku country… Prairie Village Ks. Had a park down from the house..(my brother’s)… played ball there and was usually the only white guy …but wore my OU stuff.. got called “Seiger” that white guy from OU more than once.

Such a tragic ending to a great season

He never met a follow slam he didn't like!!!

Ahh, yes! I remember the Syracuse fans were even in awe of that one. I also remember that the crowd went nuts every time Tisdale had a foul called on him. The real hero was McCallister, though. Every time Syracuse got close, he would hit a big shot from the perimeter. We had three (McCallister, D Kennedy and D Johnson) freshmen start in that game (actually, most games) and all three are in the top 20 scorers in school history...two are definitely in the top 10. Which freshmen were on the bench? Dave Sieger, Chuck Watson and Mark Wade. Sieger redshirted either that year or the next and was obviously a huge part of the '88 team. Watson was nice 4-year role player, and it sickens me that Wade did not stick around long. He would have gotten some PT the next year since there was no true PG on that team after Jan Panell graduated. Wade wound up as the starting PG on UNLV's Final Four team of 1987. He wasn't much of a shooter (understatement), but we wouldn't have needed him for that in 1985. Even without Wade, the 1983 class was to this day the gold standard for recruiting classes in school history. Quality and quantity alike!

Dave redshirted the '85 season. When WWT hit the jumper to beat La Tech in Dallas he was celebrating in street clothes on the bench.

When I went to the FF in 2002 they flashed random trivia on the auxiliary boards around the Georgia Dome. At the time, Wade still held the record for most assists in a FF game. No idea if that's still the case. That was definitely one hell of a recruiting class. Did you know that Mark visited Tark in his hotel room in Norman when UNLV came to visit? Knocked on his door and told him he wanted to transfer to Vegas. It's in The Shark's book. I asked Billy about it one time on his radio show and he was stunned!

Wow, I did not know that. I do remember that '84 game in Norman. UNLV had a solid lead in the second half as daddy's boy Danny Tarkanian had a good outside shot. I also remember Billy sending in Wayman's brother William for a few minutes in the first half (guessing lots of family were there). We woke up in the last 5-6 minutes to finally catch up and then pulled away at the very end...but that was a closer game than the final score indicated (we won by 7 or 8). I think Wade spent a year in JUCO before officially transferring to UNLV, but I could be mistaken.

I remember that Missouri game and back to back #1’s, the UNLV games, so many fun times during Tubbs era … for some reason LNC felt much louder than under Sampson and later coaches. Standing room only for the big games. Could also be that I “grew up” with Tubbs 85-90 teams and going to games with my dad. Still love the LNC when I get to visit.

If you watched the documentary on Steph Curry's career you might have noticed that the title of his Master's thesis was "Advancing Gender Equality Through Sports". Made me like him even more.
