Did he play in the same JUCO league as Chris Walker?

Certainly don't want to turn this into a Walker/Arent bashing thread, but that league must stink. I don't think I'll ever trust another offensive stat that comes out of that league.

That is all. :)

I really hope Arent finds his groove, but from what I've seen I'd almost rather still have Nick Thompson.

Can't say I disagree with the sentiments expressed about Cali juco players. OU's experiences in recruiting that league have not been good so far.

That said, I'm not ready to give up on Casey just yet. JUCO recruits typically improve considerably from their junior to their senior seasons. If the kid continues to work hard, there is still plenty of time for him to contribute this season. If not, we may have to wait until next year.

Maybe now we know why Casey talked about redshiriting his first season at OU (as reported by James Hale when Casey first signed). With hindsight as an advantage, I don't think anyone will disagree that he could have benefited from a redshirt year.

Oh, my! I can assure you that very few here will agree with you. Talk about a wasted scholarship! :facepalm

I think defensively and rebounding-wise, Arent will contribute some in time. Offensively, aside from the occasional put-back, or wide open score, I really don't see him improving. Not his fault, he is what he is, he just seems pretty back at scoring the ball to me. And that is fine.....next year we have 3 guys that should for sure play before him (Fitz, Osby, and M'Baye), and a few others that will challenge for minutes inside (Neal and Henry). Arent is perfectly fine as our 4th/5th best big.

Side note.....am I the only one that spells Arent with an apostrophe just about every time I type his name? lol

Honestly I had no idea his last name is pronounced just like "Aren't" so maybe it SHOULD be spelled that way.

I agree with this. I also think his job is simply to rebound and defend.

Yes, I constantly type an apostrophe.

Funny how some people thought Arent was going to come in here and make a big splash, and now they obviously don't anymore. Not a knock on Arent though, as I want him to succeed and be that garbage man player down low.

Soonerman, I think those people were hoping Arent would make a big splash, as opposed to expecting or predicting it. Still, it was easy to buy into the hype when the reports talked about his huge upside and his newfound commitment to conditioning and improving his game. I'll admit that got my attention.

But with very little evidence out there that he could be anything close to a difference maker, I took a guarded position regarding his potential. A couple of years ago I might have jumped in with both feet and made a bold prediction about his contribution this season. Guess I've been burned too many times over the years and I'm more cautious now. lol

As for Casey's last name, I thought it was supposed to be pronounced Air-unt until I heard the announcers call him R-unt. Everytime I hear it pronounced that way, I mentally put an apostrophe between the n and t. I usually get it right when I type it, though. I'm still not convinced that Toby and Billy are pronouncing it correctly.
