Basketball Season!

We lost to KSU in a way few could have predicted. It was miscues of the sort we don't usually commit that did us in. Yes, KSU played very solid and they deserved the win, but there were four plays that would have turned the tide in our favor (or, if you prefer, that did turn the tide in KSU's favor). No one can tell me they knew all four of those plays were going to occur.

That said, I wouldn't say I was surprised we lost. I knew they were a solid team that could beat us if we didn't play our best. We didn't, and they won. I think we'd beat them seven out of 10 games, but that's not the way it works, of course.

You say this, yet I think we'll get at least two wins from teams that I consider better than KSU. So yes, it did surprise me that we lost.

I admire your optimism WT. But that optimism makes for more consternation on your part when the inevitable losses occur.

I'm way beyond expecting anything from Stoops which makes the losses easy to take. I actually find it funny when he does something dumb like burning that timeout which, by the way, is 100% black and white wrong. Under no circumstances can you hand away 25% of the remaining time of the game in exchange for a less than 50% chance of picking up a single point. If you need more time then take the penalty and go back 5 yards which actually might increase your odds running our spread offense which notoriously fails in goal line situations.

Somebody needs to cut this thread off. Basketball board. Let's move on...

Was anybody even slightly surprised we lost to KSU? I doubt it. It's a problem we're stuck with.

This will be good for OU basketball though. The surprising exciting wins will come from Kruger. OU football has not delivered an exciting win vs a bigtime program since when? Seriously? I really think its been since the 2001 Texas Roy Williams superman play. And please don't act like beating Texas Tech and their runts in 2008 was some big unexpected win.

This is a typical comment from a bad OU fan. The wins don't really count for the bad OU fan. OSU the three games prior to last year don't count. Texas the last two years doesn't count. The last three bowl games don't count. The Big XII championship over Nebraska where OU came from behind doesn't count. The wins over Missouri don't count.

How about these games:

Alabama
Oregon
Miami
Washington (they suck)
UCLA
FSU
Cinci
TCU
Air Force

Do any of those count as exciting wins or do we just complain about the losses to TCU, BYU, Oregon (they cheated), Miami and UCLA?

I'm disappointed as anyone but I come here to get a break from football talk.

The last few years the football program has gotten stale. Maybe a little bit like it was under Kelvin the last few years in the basketball program.

OU won the Big 12 in Kelvin's next to last year; nice try.

Oh wait, no it wasn't.

I was the biggest Sampson fan out there and I still am. But if you read the basketball boards back they they were criticizing the hell out of Sampson the last few years. Even the Big 12 Championship year. Remember how we got blasted by Utah in the NCAA Tournament game? I think we ended up making that game closer near the end but it wasn't really that close a game. But we had a lot of players leaving the program those last few years also. Alexander, Lavender, McKenzie, Foust, Turner, etc left. Look I would rather have had Kelvin stayed(especially since the rules he broke are no longer against the NCAA) than go through what we went through. But what the football programs gone through the last few years it's real similar to what Kelvin was getting criticized for even worse his last few years.

The football talk on a basketball board is what needs to chill out.

OU was favored in all of those games and heavily favored in most of them. When you have to hang your hat on wins over Okie St & Missouri that confirms how stale the program has become as Nick pointed out. We don't expect to beat any of the big boys unless they are down and "hope" to beat the runts like OSU & Mizzou (who both beat us last year BTW along with BAYLOR).

But that's not my main problem. My main problem is we are sloppy and the $3 million coach constantly blunders simple game management. This has been going on for years and it's getting worse.

OU is favored in 99% of our games. Some years, we're favored in every game we play. Basing good/expected wins on the Vegas line is pretty dumb. In that case, Nick Saban should never lose a game either, but he does. And when he does, it's to a team he was "favored to beat."

WT, everybody keeps dancing around the bonehead game management blunders. Remember last year when we rallied back to tie Baylor and force overtime? They were out of timeouts and STOOPS called timeout for them and they hit a couple plays and beat us in regulation!!!!

That kind of crap is just plain dumb. Baylor was going to run out the clock and he gave them time to put something together.

He wouldn't have to call timeout if his players didn't force his hand. Sometimes you have to put losses on players...What am I saying...most of the time you have to.

3 turnovers that lead to 17pts. Jones misses Green in the endzone and we have to settle on a field goal. B/c Jones can't score in the redzone, Bell came in and fumbled the ball which lead to 0 pts. And Jones fumbling the ball into the endzone for a defensive touchdown. And Jones throwing a huge interception that lead to them scoring.

It doesn't matter who is coaching...Saban, Stoops, Miles...or God...players do those things, your chances of winning are slim to none.

The fact that we had the opportunity to still have a chance to win that game was a positive. If you're going to blame anyone...blame Jones. He lost this game...not the defense...not bell, not the offensive line. Maybe you can blame the coach's for keeping Jones as the starting QB b/c since he has taken over, we've had some horrible football...especially without Murray and Broyles on the offensive side of the ball.

We've beat this dead horse long enough.

Time for everybody to rally around the hoops team & Kruger. The excitement of the unknown! My only concern is the clutch go to scorer. Not sure if we have that true #1 option but the team should be solid all around.
