#1 is Hoosiers. I haven't watched it in probably a decade but yeah, it's THE basketball movie.

#2 for me is Hoop Dreams even though it's a documentary.

after that, it gets much tougher.

1. Hoosiers
2. Hoop Dreams
3. He Got Game
4. Love and Basketball
5. Blue Chips/Rebound/Above the Rim...all kind of tied.

Fun story about Hoosiers. Gene Hackman hated hated hated every second of filming the movie. He was difficult to work with because of this and made everyone's life on set hell. He told Dennis Hopper that they'd never work again after this debacle of a film. Turns out he was incorrect :)

How bad was the white men can't jump remake?
How bad was the space jam sequel?

You forgot Semi pro
Refuse to see the Space Jam remake.
WMCJ remake was okay? Still cant come close to touching the original. Some good themes in the 2nd one though.

Sorry I forgot Semi-Pro, it is solid. Adding it now.

Hustle with Adam Sandler was actually pretty good.

For me -

Tier 1
Above the Rim
Love & Basketball
He Got Game
White Men Can't Jump

Tier 2
Blue Chips
Hustle
Teen Wolf
Hoosiers

As a Celtic's fan I always feel like I should like Celtic Pride more than I do.

The recent movie Air about Jordan signing with Nike is pretty good.

I liked Blue Chips a lot when it first came out. Story and acting aren't very good but the star power is excellent.

The Air Up There with Kevin Bacon, circa 1994 is solid too.

Air was even better because it was on Amazon for free.

Air is pretty good. This thread pretty much has most of the movies I can think of already. So I'm gonna list some really bad ones since I agree with most of the good ones.

The 90s had a lot of really bad basketball movies and some you couldn't make today. Juwanna Mann although probably a documentary in a couple years couldn't get made today. The Air Up There was awful then and would be cancelled before release today. Eddie with Whoopi was awful. The 6th Man which was trying to basically be Angels in the Outfield with basketball was awful.

Another awful one is Thunderstruck. What a terrible idea.

Coach Carter and Glory Road were trying to do the Remember the Titans thing during that time with basketball and they were both maybe okay. Glory Road was the better of the 2 probably. But I haven't watched either since they came out.

I would probably go with Hoosiers as the best basketball movie ever. Although Space Jam and Teen Wolf are probably more enjoyable. I wouldn't argue against most of the ones mentioned already though.

Going old school (mid-1970's) - "One On One," starring Robby Benson and filmed on the campus of Colorado State University.
