I guess the selection committee put to rest the rumor the Big 12 was the best conference.

Now all the Big XII teams have to do is kick butt across the board. I'd be surprised if it didnt do much better than the seeds would predict.

Unfortunately our conference teams were carefully placed so they do not get to play any of the weaker teams that got in from those conferences. Where we do face their teams they are all the top 1 or 2 finishers. At least that is how it looks from the favorites in the games.

I could mangle the numbers to make the Big 12 look better (only 5 Big 12 teams got left out, whereas a lot more teams from other conferences didn't get bids!) but I'm looking down the bracket and only see Baylor with a chance of going to the Sweet 16.

I would love to be wrong. Satanford must lose to us eventually. They must!

There are many ways to measure "the Best". Tournament seeds may be one, but it is not a very good one if you consider the number of upsets that we always see.

On the women's side the top 2 or 3 hold seed pretty well most years, but beyond that point, lots of upsets occur. My guess is that with the home court advantage given this year to 16 teams they will tend to hold seed. But I can guarantee all will not hold.

I would say when a home team gets upset they were likely over-seeded.

The Big Twelve was demonstrated to be the best by the numbers all year long. A committee is hardly a mild suggestion of proof, more often a revealer of prejudice. I think the only thing that they suggested was the the Big Twelve needed someone who had the interests of the Big Twelve rather than just Texas as a representative.
