Class. This comes after Perine shows how to exhibit class.

You take a knee, Kim. Or, in your case, the entire boot.

Kim respects the game.....

"I tried and played tons of people, in and out of the lineup; called timeouts, trying to get people off the floor," Mulkey said. "I am most grateful that Coach Cook recognized that, because if you coach long enough, you're going to have games like this and you're not going to be on the winning end. . . . I tried everything I knew to try, because I respect (Coach Cook), but more importantly I respect the game."

That's a bunch of points, and the optics look unflattering. Yet how exactly, does a basketball team "take a knee?" Just askin... When all the starters and second line are on the bench, and your opponent CAN NOT put the ball in the bucket, what would you do, Coach Syb? On offense, do you play "four corners" on every possession, then just turn the ball over? Simply don't defend at all--have all five players stand outside the arc and see if the opponent can make a layup? Do you tell your team to not compete at all, just imitate The Walking Dead?
That's not basketball at any level, especially college basketball.
I honestly don't know the answer. Again, it looks like horrible sportsmanship, but if you think BU was out to embarrass Winthrop I disagree. There was no message sent here other than Winthrop is woeful and even the players at the end of the BU bench are ballers.

Interesting that Baylor is up 77 to 18 at the half, and you have STARTERS scoring in both the 3rd and 4th quarter. Yep that is class. All you have to do is run plays for your bench players, and tell them, you don't shoot until every one of your teammates has scored. Play hard on defense, but use the clock, no fast break points after we are up by 50 by starters and regular contributors. It does not appear that Baylor did much to hold down the score. They took 26 shots in the third quarter. Sportsmanship my posterior.

It's really hard to tell a young athlete to turn off the intensity and just pull up. Most of the non starters are fighting for a spot and taking advantage of every opportunity to stand out or move up in the lineup. So in baseball the relief pitcher is supposed to just underhand the ball to the plate given they have a big lead or in football the backup QB is to just throw it directly to the other team?? Give me a break! You never quit until the whistle sounds and game is over. I think Kim handled the situation perfectly in that when she subbed the majority of the time it was 5 at a time. Every single player was in the game for at least 13 mins EXCEPT for our leading scorer, Jones, who never touched the court!! No one played more than 21 mins which IMO is beyond fair and classy. Sic'em!

I can give you an idea of how various sports limit the running up of a score.

---Lou Brock found that it was considered bad etiquette to steal second with a seven run lead.

---Bud Wilkinson actually had his quarterback take a knee throughout almost the entire fourth quarter.

---Coaches have told their players not to shoot until the clock is under ten. You can work on passing and cutting for twenty-five seconds.

---And, yes, Perine ran to the one yard line and took a knee rather than to score.

There are many ways to limit the score when you aren't trying to instill blood lust in your team.

Quit playing teams like Winthrop.....Play SOMEBODY.....Fans don't like to sit and watch a game like that. I always heard..."If you ARE somebody, then PLAY somebody"......Take for instance, Texas this year....They are definitely playing SOMEBODY !!!! Hats off to them!!!!

So I guess UCLA, UCONN, DePaul, Ohio St., and Tennessee are nobody, huh? Well it's not South Dakota St., Tulsa or Xavier so looks like we need some work. Don't worry on Jan. 29 we will FINALLY play somebody!
