At least he made the pre-game. ha ha ha

What a clown. Who will he lose to next? We already have Bucknell, Bradley and Northern Iowa.

He sure is the best coach in America ... or just another dumb ag who got lucky once in his life.

I'd be pretty happy if one of our coaches got lucky once in his lifetime.

He's a good coach. Someone's jealous.

I did find it hilarious he was on the set watching the best coach in the country go to work and get to his 6th final four in 12 years. That's 5 more Final Fours than Self.

Only the Phog and this board would say Self is a better coach.

Well at one time North Carolina fans thought the same of Dean Smith and I think he turned out to be a pretty good coach.

Damn straight! Izzo is incredible, making the final four for the 2nd straight year, and doing it without Lucas is astounding.

I voted Izzo as my tournament coach and Self as my regular season coach. Izzo is a flat out stud. He's had an incredible run. I will say that historically speaking it makes what Coach K has done in winning 3 titles even more impressive. Izzo's record shows just how hard it is to win it even when you get there multiple times.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but you are basically calling a coach who repeatedly wins the conference championship, has 1 national championship but has a bad string of end of the season losses while on the big stage a bad coach? I wouldn't ever go over to owen field and say that....

Indeed. He's going to have a tough time winning it again without his best player. Playing Butler will help, because although Butler is really good (with 2 Pro's) it will be a possession game, and will undoubtedly come down to the wire. That's where his sets and his teams will, will get you.

First of all, you simply cannot compare sports. It just doesn't work.

Secondly, I assume you want to get into bowl losses. Well, losing national title games are not "bad losses" and that is a huge portion of the games you want to bring up, and Boise St. and WVU were both very, very good teams and we were missing multiple starters in both. We aren't talking about not getting out of the first weekend as a #1 overall seed, lol. You can't compare the NCAA Tournament to bowl season, it simply is apples and oranges.

I'm not downplaying what we've done in football at all. I just think it's ridiculous to rip on Self because of his NCAA losses in the years when he didn't win the championship.

Plus basketball it's a lot easier for underdogs to beat the top teams, hence why March Madness is so crazy every year.

I don't think he would get ripped if people on this board didn't call him the best coach in the country, he of the 1 final four.

great post. he is a complete loser.

I think the poll we had on here had Izzo as the leader of best coach so most people on this site think Izzo is a better coach.

I voted Izzo. I do think Self is a great coach. I just think Izzo is better. He really has a knack for making blue chippers and blue collar kids buy into his system. He's a master strategist on both ends. He's had about 3 or 4 walkons turn into major contributors. That's huge right there.

Bill Self won in lopsided fashion. This was before the UNI collapse and Izzo run to the Final Four with a red cross team.

I stand corrected, you're right. Bill Self had 44 votes to Izzo's 2nd place 22.
Doesn't change my mind, Self is a good coach but he wouldn't even be in my top 3.

I voted Izzo. Self is a good coach, but year in and year out, Izzo gets more done with less.

It's hard to say without really clear criteria. If it is taking in the whole of a career then there is no way that you could put Self in the Top 5 or maybe even 10 because he just hasn't coached long enough.

I think if you had to pick 5 coaches to run your program today Self could easily be in the Top 5. I'd go Izzo, Self, K, Williams, Calipari in no particular order.

You can see that while Self is a good coach he is still an unfinished product. Hopefully he continues to learn and get better.

I met Self while he was coaching at Tulsa and he really is a nice guy.
