Pearl is about to be fired.... He has the like the 4th highest winning % in the last 10 yrs...(something like that, it was on TV last night)...

He could bring some excitiment to the program!

He also might run the "loosest ship" in the country. The guy had PICTURES to prove he was breaking rules.....do we really WANT that?

well let's just string his azz up now and hang'em high.

losing this game doesn't diminish his abilities as a coach. he'd be good in Norman.
 
If Pearl is let go I see him probably going into the TV studio for a year or two.

This has NOTHING to do with today's game.....this has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that we are already in enough NCAA trouble without Bruce Pearl bringing his brand of it here.

Pearl was found this summer to have lied to NCAA investigators as they investigated allegations of rules violations by Pearl and his staff. The coach told investigators he didn't know where a photo of a recruit -- who was a high school junior at the time -- had been taken, but investigators already knew that the photo was taken at Pearl's home. Hosting a high school junior at an off-campus site is prohibited by NCAA rules.

and another one.....AFTER they were informed of the first investigation and AFTER he was informed he could/would be fired if other major violations occurred.


The allegations, which Tennessee has until May 21 to answer, have been widely reported and include hosting a recruit at Pearl’s home for a barbecue, lying about the recruit’s presence at the party to an N.C.A.A. investigator and 96 impermissible telephone calls to recruits by Pearl and his staff. (sound familiar???)



The new charge against Pearl is an alleged improper contact on Sept. 14, 2010, with Jordan Adams, who was a junior basketball player at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. The N.C.A.A. alleges that Pearl and the assistant coach Tony Jones had a two- to three-minute conversation with Adams before an Oak Hill practice.

Coaches can make casual greetings with juniors in passing off campus, but it is against N.C.A.A. rules to converse for a period of time with a player.

Last summer, Pearl was docked $1.5 million in pay over five years and barred from recruiting off campus for a year. He was also suspended for eight games this season by the Southeastern Conference. Mike Hamilton, the Tennessee athletic director, has said the university would retain Pearl unless other serious violations were revealed.

But the other stuff is wayyyyy too much to add to the problems we already have.


and JBaker, he didn't have staff hooking anyone up for loans but he PARTICIPATED in the cheating going on his program and LIED to the NCAA about it. Which is worse? and it wasn't an isolated incident obviously.

He sounds like public enemy number one doesn't he?

I still can't believe he hasn't faced the firing squad yet for those terrible things.

OMG.......why wouldn't I support his hire???????

He is a blatant cheater......you can have him.
 
I do agree more with coolm but our administration won't hire him. If this was about basketball he's the perfect coach. But heck there's a good chance that Pearl gets a Kelvin Sampson type suspension from the NCAA so I doubt he coaching any where. Would love it if he's our next coach as far as style, recruiting etc.
 
funny...when The King was "a cheater" we were all anti-ncaa. Anyone else and it's "he's a cheater".

The things he did weren't morally culpable per se. Tech violations. meh. I would take him.

cool....don't get me wrong. I think, as far as coaching and recruiting go he would be a good hire. I just think he has no problems bending the rules to do the recruiting part....and that is something we DEFINITELY don't need right now (with the probation and the Tiny investigation, etc)...and Pearl broke rules again even AFTER he knew he was in trouble already......I have an issue with that. That is one of the things that I lost a lot of respect for Kelvin Sampson for....even after he got in trouble at OU he did the SAME THING at IU....how can you make that mistake again? That is the issue I have with Pearl...he was already in trouble and wasn't EXTRA careful to make sure he didn't make any mistakes.

Yes, alot of the violations seem like little things (ooooooh...he had a bbq and had recruits there, etc) but one little thing, then another, then another....get caught, and then another, etc. I am not sure he wouldn't do the same thing at OU....and that would be devastating.

It is just my opinion and it isn't worth much...take it for what it's worth.
 
I never said he wasn't a good coach but seriously it would be an idiotic hire and one that only an idiot would support. I know some of you care more about this hire than your own families but please, stop this madness! It should go w/o saying that hiring Pearl would make OU look foolish. It also isn't going to happen b/c that is obviously not the image Joe C has in mind for the program.
 
Pearl is a good coach with a LOT of baggage. It doesn't just start with this last incident. He was blackballed for YEARS for ratting out Illinois on the recruitment of Deon Thomas.

He's not the type that I see Joe C. bringing in. I like him, I think he'd be a GREAT coach here. I just don't see it happening.
