Buddy Hield graduates from Oklahoma

Outstanding news but not surprising. Buddy is a good student and a goal-driven young man. Besides, his mother wanted him to get his degree. He would do it for her even if there were no other reason.

This year's graduating class includes 104 student-athletes. Ninety-four are earning bachelor's degrees, eight are earning master's degrees, one is receiving a law degree and one a medical degree.

Here is a link to a complete list (pdf file) of the OU student-athletes earning degrees. Five MBB players are listed as earning their degrees in May, 2016. In addition, Ryan Spangler is a 5th year senior that had previously earned his degree.

Men's basketball senior C.J. Cole experienced one of the greatest achievements of his collegiate career this past April, extending even further than being part of a team that advanced to OU's fifth NCAA Final Four in program history.

The Sperry, Okla., native was presented the 2016 Elite 90 Award at a ceremony to start Final Four weekend in Houston. The award is given annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

"I honestly had no idea it was going to happen," Cole said. "It was a complete surprise and caught me off guard. It felt really good to be able to represent our team."

Cole, who played in 35 games over the course of his Sooner career, is a chemical biosciences major and will graduate this week with a 3.97 cumulative GPA. In February, Cole was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and was the only men's basketball student-athlete to sport a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester. He plans to begin medical school in August.

"I entered college knowing academics would last me a lot longer than basketball," Cole said. "I'm really happy I was recognized for my hard work in academics by winning the Elite 90 Award. It is what is expected out of OU student-athletes, to win awards and be in the spotlight. You expect next year's class to do even better. It is part of the mentality of being a Sooner. You are expected to excel."

Ah, sorry. I only scanned your initial post. Thanks for the info, Traveler!

That's great. Every scholarship senior graduated, wonder if that's ever happened for us before.

Isaiah was in the list of graduates, and I was watching for him, but I didn't see him walk. Buddy got to go up at the end (this was at the Arts and Sciences convocation) and lead the OU chant. It kinda looked like he didn't know the words...

Isaiah was playing in a draft combine scrimmage Friday. That may have prevented him from walking if he had wanted to.

Graduating in 4 years while playing full time hoops is impressive. It took me 4 1/2 and I didn't play a sport, and had a full ride so didn't have to work.

athletes also pretty much go to school every summer semester (so they will continue to get free room and board) and lots of time take winter intersession courses
