I work for the inspirational magazine Guideposts (founded by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in 1945). I'll bet some of you grew up reading Guideposts at your grandmother's house (moms and grandmothers in the south and midwest make up a big percentage of our readership).

Anyway, I work as a digital producer and sometimes writer on the magazine's web site, and I pitched doing a web-only story about Buddy Hield. It's not meant for basketball junkies; it's sort of an introduction to Buddy's inspiring story for those who aren't big sports fans. So I doubt any of you will learn a single thing from it, but if you care to give it a look, please do:

If we've gotten anything wrong, please let me know; it was written a bit on the fly (did I just admit that publicly?).

I've pitched our print editors on doing a story with Buddy, but he'll be in the NBA before that comes to pass, if it ever does.

Sky, I learn something new about you every season. I had no idea you worked for Guideposts online. I practically grew up with the print version of Guideposts. It was a fixture in our home for years.

Great job on Buddy's story! It's one that deserves to be told over and over. There will never be another quite like him at OU, that's for sure. I'll repeat what I said not long ago. He has captured the hearts and the attention of basketball fans and sports professionals everywhere. People absolutely love this guy, and so do I!

I'm going to be very sad when he plays his last game in an OU uniform. But at the same time, I'll be grateful for what he has done for our basketball program. I will also be happy knowing his life and that of his family will be so much easier in the not too distant future after he signs what I hope will be a lucrative NBA contract.

Thanks, Ada! I've worked for GP for 4.5 years. I like it very much (except the pay--oof!). I too grew up reading Guideposts, but mostly at my grandmother's. I think Mom subscribed off and on over the years, but it was mostly a grandma's-house read.

Great read ...I am huge fan of Dr. Peale I have read his book the Power of Positive Thinking on numerous occasion my copy of the book is worn and battered from usage, powerful words of wisdom.

Thanks, PapaP.

I'm really glad his story is getting out to a new audience through your article. It deserves to be told and you do Buddy's story justice.

yup, in the house....

I printed off the Enough story Buddy wrote and gave a few copies to some students of mine, 5th graders. Urban kids who love ball.

Never know if a little bit makes a difference.

That's a good idea, kc.

Thanks for that, sky. Great article about a great human being.

I knew you were a writer soon after I joined OUHoops.com back in 2008 and began reading your posts. I recall telling you so in a PM.
