Saturday, at BYU

http://stats.ncaa.org/team/522/stats/12500

This was a good team last year, one of our better wins. It was a game in which Maddie scored about 13 in the first five minutes, and we coasted to a win over a team that gave a lot of teams fits.

Broadhead can score. A 5-9 Jr, she hits everything except free throws. Pulsipher is a 5-8 Sr who never misses a free throw. She hit some threes, but isn't off to a good start this year at that. These are their two scorers. Jasmine Moody (6-2 soph) and Kalani Purcell (6-2 Sr) are the rebounders.

Broadhead and Pulsipher get a lot of steals, and they tend to handle the ball. But, BYU has some turnover problems (46 in two games as opposed to 24 assists). They aren't super on the boards, they have turnover problems. They were a better three point shooting team than they have shown this year.

They are 1-1, having beaten Utah Valley 68-50 before losing at Georgia, 81-51. I don't think they are as good as last year. They lost Lexi Rydalch, 24.18 ppg and 5.82 RPG.

Half

OU 31
BYU 34

BYU began the second quarter 17-2 with a lot of reserves. We dominated on the boards. But, we shot 34%, fouled a lot, and had some late turnovers.
Nobody is shooting well.

Maddie---did you make the trip?

OU wins 68-61
After three, it was 54-47 BYU

Maddie and Peyton went to work in the third and fourth quarters. Maddie got OU back into the game when they were down by seven with two threes and a two. Then, Peyton came to play in the fourth. BYU was only 2-15 in the fourth, with one of those coming with nine seconds left after we backed off a bit. We had some key players who are good free throw shooters miss a lot of free throws: Maddie 0-2, Vivi missed her first two. Peyton missed her first two. We were back and fourth by a point until Maddie hit a three to put us up by four. We never looked back.

Peyton: 16 on 6-14 shooting, one three
Maddie: 11 on 4 of 7, 3 of 5 from three
Vivi: 9 on 5 of 9 from the line, only two for four from the field, 13 boards
Gioiya: 9 on 4 of 16 shooting, but she did have six boards (4 TO)
EJ: 3 of 3 from the field and 7 boards
Nancy: 1 of 1 with a rebound
Gabbi: zero for eight from the field. But, 8 boards, seven assists, 4-4 from the line.
OU only shot 33.8%, 31.8% from three, 59.1% from the line?
OU won the boards: 56-41
BYU only shot 34.9%, 28.6% from three. They got the lead on some hot three-point shooting. But,, they were 0-7 in the fourth quarter.

Some bad no calls in the post. Their bigs about killed Vivi.

Terrible shooting raising its head already this season? Should be a concern, even though it's very early in the season.

This game reminded me of the men's game of last night. We got a lead due to their bad shooting. Then, they got hot from three and took the lead. But, the men didn't have the seniors to step up, and the underclassmen made mistakes.

In this game, we had the experienced players step up. The SoonerSpoarts.com story said that Peyton hit three treys in the second half. It was Maddie that hit three. Peyton had one. But, Peyton dominated the early fourth quarter, and Maddie dominated the comeback in the third quarter. Once the game was close, our seniors and experienced players stepped up. I think it was LaNesia who hit her only basket, a three, that gave us a lead by a point. We see-sawed a minute or two. Then, I think Carter hit her only basket of the fourth quarter to get us a one-point lead. Then, Maddie hit a three, and we had a four point lead. They never overcame that. Vivi, who had missed her first two free throws, made several down the stretch. Gabbi, who didn't hit a shot from the field, he four free throws. Peyton made some big shots. Peyton didn't shoot well, just six of fourteen. But, she stepped up in the second half. I think she had five in the first half, and eleven in the fourth quarter. Vivi dominated the boards, although exhausted.

Vivi, Maddie, Peyton, and Gabbi made it happen late. The men didn't have that many experienced players to go to. They will.

If we could make all the bunnies we miss and guard the players in the corners, some of whom have never made a three but will when we fail to guardas we perpetually do, we would be unbeatable

OU won the rebounding battle 56-41. Wow! That is usually a sign that a team is really hustling and battling.

Both teams shot approximately 34% from the field. Lots of missed shots equals lots of rebounds, but getting 15 more boards was a key stat in the road win.
