Capel and NCAA tidbit

I hope so. That would be an easy win, IMO.

Only if George Mason is the 11 and OU is the 6. If Jeff Capel did anything better than his two predecessors, it was win the NCAA Tournament games he was supposed to win. He went 4-0 as the higher seed, including OU winning only the second NCAA first-round game in the previous 20 years as a seed lower than a three (that 6/11 matchup in '08). During that time, OU lost 1st round games as a #4 (three times), #6 (once), #10 (twice) and #11 (once), and won as a #13.

Geez!!!! Scare me why don't ya!!!!! :ez-laugh:

I still think Coach Capel will make a good coach someday. I really hope that he finds success.

IF the NCAA doesn't name Capel, they can NOT claim lack of Institutional Control, because Capel would have been the first to CONTROL damage.

Why? He dismantled OU's BB program, had 3 of the worst seasons in 30, will likely land us on the NCAA prison ship and handed Kruger a terrible roster.

I wish he would move out of Oklahoma and give us back all that mad money we will be paying over the next several years.

Capel is a good guy who made some character mistakes when it came to recruiting in my opinion that ended up causing turmoil from within which started a downhill trend. I think he can still end up being a good coach elsewhere.

Kelvin Sampson is the guy who almost landed OU on the "NCAA prison ship".

If OU gets under any type of sanctions and Capel doesn't then I have a big problem with that no matter how involved Capel really was because anything that happened under him should be his fault in some way. The good thinga bout this tidbit if it's true is that it sounds like we won't get in big trouble with the NCAA.

:facepalm

Because holding grudges and letting hatred fester inside you will eat away at your soul. Yes, Capel torpedoed our once-proud program. He paid a huge price for it. He lost his job. There's nothing we can do about it his tenure at Oklahoma now. It's time to move on.

I guess albinos can hold grudges since they don't have a soul.

2 points:

1.) Capel won all of his NCAA tourney games at OU with the best player on the planet on his team.
2.) The games we were supposed to lose in the NCAA tourney, we didn't just lose, we got our asses handed to us (30 points to Louisville and UNC by 12 but could have been 30).

Losing to UNC by 12 that year was not a very big deal. It was obvious to anybody that looked at things objectively that they were the best team in the country. As for Louisville, that was just plain embarrassing. There is no way around that.

Losing by 12 was not a big deal, but as I said UNC could have named the score. That is a big deal, IMO.

Great if he gets a job. I believe that anything he would be paid would reduce by that amount which OU has to pay him.
Seems financially it would be better to stay out a year or 2.

I would suspect this is accurate and hope Capel gets a job too. Capel isn't some horrible guy, it just didn't work out for him at OU. Had Tiny and TMG worked out, Caple might be in the running to knock off Sampson and/or Tubbs in the rankings of top OU basketball coach. I am pretty sure Capel wanted those guys to work out.

Your points don't change the fact that Jeff Capel went 4-0 against lower-seeded teams. Having the best player in OU history didn't stop Billy Tubbs from losing to a #10 seed in Dayton back in '84. Having the Big 8 Player of the Year didn't stop Kelvin Sampson from losing to a #13 seed in Manhattan back in '95. Upsets happen, but Jeff Capel avoided them. It appears that FACT seems to bother you for some reason or another. Also, I would rather lose to Louisville by 30 (or even 50), than lose yet another 1st round game which OU wasn't a top-3 seed.

Sorry WaymanFan, I just can't agree with this. While I dont like losing as the higher seed, I hate getting embarrassed more. Upsets happen in the tourny (see Butler, VCU, and George Mason). 30 point losses are reserved for 15 and 16 seeds

It will have to be one of thoese "agree to disagree" type things. I was so ecstatic after beating St. Joe's (while also realizing we could have easily been seeded #7 or #8) and finally winning a 1st round game that there was no way it could be spoiled (for me), and it wasn't. The Message Board I was on at the time had everyone celebrating when OU finally broke through as a seed lower than #3, and the Louisville game simply meant that team got about as far as their talent could take them.

I would rather see my team go down fighting - against anyone - than see them completely give up when faced with a better team. I don't like to see my team beaten before they even walk on the court, which seemed to be the case at times over the past 5 seasons.

Haha...that loss to Louisville was a complete joke, we couldn't even get the ball past midcourt and into our offense.
