I am definitely holding back a bit in projecting this team. We have holes and need to improve, but I am sure that if this were a kelvin team, we would be talking NCAA tournament. We are playing very solid basketball and are a really efficient offensIve team.

Thoughts?

I like the way the team has looked thus far. I also like that our current RPI ranking is #56. However, I'm not quite ready to buy in just yet. If we in on Saturday I think I can stop curbing my glowing optimism.

Side note: It's frustrating to see that we're still ranked 9th in ESPN's rankings of the Big 12 conference. It's clear no one in the national media is paying attention to us.

I don't pay any attention to any preseason rankings. Do they update them as the season progresses. I would think that once the issue them, they don't change.

What scares me about this team is the lack of depth, especially at the guard positions. With Newell leaving, we pretty much have one true guard on the bench (Blair), and he is more of a PG. There will be games that Neal is fine getting minutes at the 3, but there will certainly be games that will hurt us as well. Curious to see what LK draws up for tonight to break the press. Grooms is the only guard on the team that I would say is a + ball handler. Blair and Cam can both get sloppy with it. LK might use a guy like Osby to help out some.

But back to the topic.....that lack of depth will kill us later in the season I'm afraid. Tired legs worry me. Also, anybody else gets injured, and we take a HUGE hit in depth again. Also can't afford many slumps from guys like Pledger/Cam/Osby.

This team plays hard, and they are improving, I just think losing Newell, and the overall lack of depth will bite us at some point. I think we probably finish the season as kind of a middle of the pack NIT team. Hope I'm wrong. If we can somehow win out during the preseason, we have a chance to catch a break or two and be fighting for an NCAA spot late in the year. Assuming we stay healthy. At some point this season I expect to hear how LK is backing off of the conditioning/practice time to try and save legs.

This times 1,000. Outstanding analysis.

That sounds spot on WT. I think much of our season will depend a lot on how healthy we are. We really need Tyler Neal to grow up quickly now.
